Speaking of culture be sure to check out the CREED section of our careers page: Summary The Purchasing & Inventory Specialist is responsible for leading procurement activities managing vendor relationships monitoring inventory levels overseeing shipping and receiving and ensuring compliance with industry standards. This role combines strategic purchasing with hands-on inventory control cycle counts audits and production support in a food-grade manufacturing environment. The position plays a key role in maintaining cost-effective operations while ensuring accuracy safety quality sanitation and customer service. Primary Responsibilities Purchasing & Vendor Management - Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with company goals.
- Negotiate vendor contracts to secure optimal pricing terms and service levels.
- Forecast inventory needs and manage departmental budgets to control costs.
- Analyze market data purchasing trends and supplier performance for continuous improvement.
Inventory Control & Audits - Monitor inventory levels to prevent shortages excess or obsolete stock.
- Conduct cycle counts and audits to ensure accuracy of records and compliance with regulations.
- Utilize ERP systems to track goods flow stock levels transfers and locations.
- Implement and maintain FIFO and stock rotation processes to manage aging inventory.
- Generate inventory and purchasing reports for senior management.
Shipping Receiving & Logistics - Oversee incoming and outgoing shipments verifying accuracy quality and documentation.
- Maintain accurate records including truck inspections shipping documents and transfers.
- Load and unload materials using forklifts or pallet jacks ensuring safe and efficient handling.
- Collaborate with logistics and tech teams to optimize storage distribution and order fulfillment.
Production & Administrative Support - Assist production technicians as needed to ensure smooth workflows.
- Prepare and distribute production schedules work orders and supporting documentation.
- Maintain and update manufacturing records and databases.
- Provide administrative support including data entry filing and correspondence.
- Assist in facility sanitation programs to maintain audit readiness (GMP SQF and food safety standards).
- Organize and support meetings including agendas and minutes.
Qualifications - Bachelors degree in supply chain management Business Administration or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 3 years of experience in a production or manufacturing environment preferably food industry.
- Proven experience in purchasing procurement or inventory management.
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems computerized inventory management and Microsoft Office (Excel Word).
- Proficiency with SAP and QuickBooks preferred.
- Demonstrated forklift driving skills and knowledge of shipping/receiving processes.
- Excellent organizational prioritization and time-management skills.
- Strong negotiation analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate across teams.
- Attention to detail with high standards for accuracy and compliance.
- Flexibility to adapt to varied schedules including evenings or weekends as needed.
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter while also leading and motivating a team.
