The Department of Journalism at Stellenbosch University (SU) is a growing hub of research supervision teaching and community engagement in the fields of journalism media and communication.
We currently offer Knowledge Skills (an undergraduate module for all students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences) a practice-orientated honours degree and advanced research-based degrees on MA and PhD levels.
The practical nature of the BAHons Journalism degree necessitates an unusually high workload in terms of academic administration.
This work includes on top of the routine administration of courses and students additional responsibilities related to staffing and equipment which relate to the specificities of a production-oriented selection process for this programme is also an intensive process requiring careful planning and correspondence with prospective students.
From time to time the Department hosts international visitors conferences and workshops which requires administrative we have an active digital media presence on our website and various social media channels for which we need carefully curated content.
The Department is therefore in need of administrative assistance to support these various activities.

Die Departement Joernalistiek by die Universiteit Stellenbosch (US) is n groeiende sentrum vir navorsing studieleiding onderrig en gemeenskapsbetrokkenheid in die veld van joernalistiek media en
kommunikasie. Ons bied tans Kennisvaardighede (n voorgraadse module vir alle studente in die Fakulteit Lettere en Sosiale Wetenskappe) n praktykgerigte honneursgraad en gevorderde
navorsingsgebaseerde grade op MA- en PhD-vlak aan.
Die praktiese aard van die HonsBA Joernalistiek-graad noodsaak n buitengewoon ho werkslading ten opsigte van akademiese administrasie. Benewens die gereelde administrasie van kursusse en
studente sluit die werk addisionele verantwoordelikhede in wat verband hou met personeel en toerusting spesifiek vir n produksiegeorinteerde program.
Die keuringsproses vir hierdie program is ook n intensiewe proses wat fyn beplanning en korrespondensie met voornemende studente vereis.
Die Departement tree soms as gasheer op vir internasionale besoekers konferensies en werkswinkels wat administratiewe ondersteuning verg. Ons het ook n aktiewe teenwoordigheid op ons
webruimte en talle sosialemediakanale waarvoor ons inhoud benodig wat versigtig saamgestel is.
Die Departement benodig dus akademiese ondersteuning vir al hierdie aktiwiteite.
Duties/Pligte
The incumbent will be expected to:
- Manage the booking system of all camera and sound-related departmental equipment to ensure that everything is received and returned in good order.
- Keep careful track of the dates that specialist lecturers will visit to teach on the BAHons Journalism programme in order to make the relevant logistical arrangements such as parking and travel
bookings on time.
- Liaise with specialist lecturers before their arrival to establish that they have access to Eduroam Wi-Fi and that all relevant learning materials are made available to students.
- Ensure that all specialist lecturers submit their invoices in a timely manner and follow up on whether they have been remunerated.
- Ensure in conjunction with the BAHons Journalism programme convener that all specialist lecturers submit grades and feedback on students work in a timely manner and in the correct format.
- Handle the logistics for organising honours students field trips.
- Assist with administrative and logistical arrangements during seminars conferences and workshops.
- Assist with the administrative and logistical arrangements related to the BAHons Journalism selection process.
- Handle communication directed at the Department via the central email address and website in a professional and timely manner.
- Curate and produce content for the Departments digital media channels (website and social media) in a professional and timely manner.
- Support the departmental administrator with finance matters when needed.
- Support the departmental administrator with the uploading of official student grades when needed.
- Support the Department with ad hoc administrative tasks as per the request of the departmental chair and/or departmental administrator.

reisbesprekings te tref.
- Vr hul aankoms kontak te maak met spesialisdosente om vas te stel of hulle toegang het tot Eduroam Wi-Fi en dat al die relevante leermateriaal aan studente beskikbaargestel is.
- Te verseker dat alle spesialisdosente hul fakture betyds inhandig en om op te volg of hulle vergoeding ontvang het.
- In samewerking met die modulekordineerder van die HonsBA Joernalistiek-program te verseker dat alle spesialisdosente hul punte en terugvoer op studente se werk betyds en in die korrekte
formaat inhandig.
- Die logistiek van die honneursstudente se uitstappies hanteer.
- Bystand te verleen met administratiewe en logistieke relings tydens seminare konferensies en werkswinkels.
- Bystand te verleen met die administratiewe en logistieke relings wat verband hou met die keuringsproses vir die HonsBA Joernalistiek-program.
- Kommunikasie wat via die sentrale e-pos-adres en webruimte aan die Departement gerig word professioneel en intyds te hanteer.
- Op n professionele en intydse manier inhoud saam te stel en te skep vir die Departement se digitalemediakanale (webruimte en sosiale media).
- Die departementele administrateur met finansile sake te ondersteun soos nodig.
- Die departementele administrateur met die oplaai van amptelike studentepunte te ondersteun soos nodig.
