Job Summary

Position Overview

The DH Initiative atUVAs sGraduate School of Arts and Sciences is seeking a Communications Intern (a graduate student assistant position) for the 2025-26 academic year. This internship provides mentorship and opportunities for independent research and writing in the fields of digitalhumanitiespedagogy academic communications and event planning.

The role does not require coding or data science skills and the intern does not need to be enrolled in the DH Certificate program. Instead the position encourages professional growth in academic communications event coordination and digital humanities practices. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to develop digital humanitiesexpertiseand academic communications experience while supporting the DH Certificate Program. Former interns have transitioned into full-time roles in related fields making this a valuablestepping stonefor students interested in highereducation research and digital humanities engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Communications Support:Composeand send DHIbulletins.

Event Support and Coordination:Maintainupdated listings of DH Certificate events and opportunities and provide setup staffing and breakdown for DHI events throughout the academic year.

Website Support:Provide minimal technicalassistancewithmaintainingDH program content online.

Research & Writing:Conduct independent research on DH pedagogy and contribute writtenmaterials.

Administrative Assistance:Support program operations including calendar management and email list organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills including calendar and list management

  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities

  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a diverse academic environment

  • Initiative and ability to work independently

  • Event planning experience

  • Familiarity with academic research & writing

  • Openness to learning website management skills (no coding)

  • Proficiencyin Microsoft Office Google Suite Zoom Webinars Teams and cloud-based tools

Anticipated Position Compensation: $20.00 Hourly
