:59 PMCBC Ottawa seeks an innovative and collaborative Senior Producer to lead our team of award-winning journalists. Reporting to the Executive Producer of News you will drive both breaking and enterprise story creation ensuring content resonates with our audience across various platforms.
You will lead daily editorial meetings vet scripts for video and radio and collaborate with other leaders to foster an efficient and cutting-edge newsroom. Your keen news sense and winning attitude will be crucial in finding new ways to tell impactful stories.
A natural collaborator you will thrive on mentoring young journalists navigating conflict and change breaking down silos and developing a representative and inclusive culture. You will guide coach and support reporters in the Ottawa newsroom working closely with leaders from other CBC Ottawa teams.
Your responsibilities:
Oversee daily editorial decisions at CBC Ottawa daily. Lead editorial meetings determine program lineups and provide editorial oversight to ensure our content is original responsive relevant and impactful and meets our journalistic standards.
Develop a strategy for CBC Ottawas assignment desk with a focus on data driven content connecting with all platforms.
Engaged in the news events and happening in CBC Ottawas coverage area.
Provide feedback and coaching to journalists to help them develop their skills and produce content of the highest quality.
Assist with planning newsroom-wide coverage for special projects and events.
Be in tune with story and video trends and audience habits.
Collaborate with other leaders to grow audiences on all CBC News platforms.
Assist with certain scheduling decisions.
Work closely with community producers to deepen our community connections through programming outreach and stakeholder sessions.
Your profile:
University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of seven years of journalism experience. Demonstrated experience leading a team in a fast-paced daily multi-platform news environment.
Excellent journalistic and critical thinking skills including knowledge of the legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
Superior communication interpersonal and organizational skills.
A strategic thinker with a proven track record of executing on a vision.
Demonstrated ability to exercise both quick editorial judgment and long-term planning.
A high-energy leader with a positive team-first attitude and the ability to motivate and coach teams encourage creativity and embrace experimentation.
Experience and commitment to developing content strategies to feature new voices and perspectives and to connect with new younger and more diverse audiences.
A strong proven connection to the communities we serve in Ottawa and a deep and nuanced understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives and lived experiences.
Strong people management skills with a keen desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required.
Possession of a valid drivers licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canadas insurance company.
