Overview
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Stress Rupture and Creep Test Technician to serve as a Shift Lead 3 responsible for coordinating high-temperature mechanical testing and ensuring operational excellence across the lab. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership scheduling and resource management responsibilities to support company goals in Safety Quality Delivery and Cost (SQDC).
Salary: $25.40 - $33.87/hour Depending on Experience ($2.00 Shift Differential)
Shift: 10-6:30am
Responsibilities
Leadership & Coordination
- Lead daily shift operations in the Stress Rupture and Creep testing lab ensuring smooth execution of test programs and alignment with production schedules.
- Scheduling: Develop and maintain the departments daily weekly and project-based schedules to ensure resources are appropriately allocated and deadlines are met.
- Serve as the primary liaison for shift-to-shift communication and coordination with other departments including engineering maintenance and quality.
- Support and mentor technicians fostering a culture of accountability teamwork and continuous improvement.
Testing Oversight
- Coordinate and oversee all testing activities to ensure accuracy compliance with specifications and timely completion of test programs.
- Set up calibrate and maintain test frames and furnaces in accordance with ASTM and internal procedures (e.g. ASTM E139 E292).
- Verify and validate data acquisition temperature control and loading systems for accuracy and performance.
- Collaborate Element HB Customer Service Representatives to provide real-time updates on test progress sample loading and completion timelines.
Quality & Compliance
- Calibration Schedule Management: Maintain and oversee the calibration schedule ensuring all test systems and measurement tools remain compliant and operational.
- Calibration Tracking: Track document and verify calibration records for all instruments and equipment in use.
- Ensure all tests are conducted and recorded in accordance with company quality standards and customer requirements.
- Support internal and external audits by maintaining complete and accurate documentation.
Operational Excellence
- SQDC Leadership: Lead the departments SQDC activities and reporting ensuring continuous alignment with organizational performance goals.
- Consumables Tracking: Monitor and manage inventory of consumables ensuring timely ordering and availability of necessary supplies to prevent downtime.
- 5S Project Leadership: Drive and report on 5S initiatives to maintain a clean organized and efficient laboratory environment.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance safety data reliability and testing throughput.
Skills / Qualifications
- Education: Associates degree in Materials Science Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent technical training preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in mechanical testing (creep stress rupture tensile or fatigue) preferably in an aerospace or materials lab environment.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Familiarity with mechanical test systems (ATS) and data acquisition software.
- Understanding of high-temperature materials testing standards and furnace control systems.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings specifications and quality documentation.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong organizational and scheduling capabilities.
- Excellent communication and cross-departmental collaboration.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and data integrity.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a high-temperature lab environment.
- Extended periods of standing bending and manual work.
- Use of appropriate PPE including heat-resistant gloves face shields and safety glasses.
