As the Behavior Specialist (Crisis Support) at Devereux Day Academy you will work with other dedicated education professionals who share your passion for helping individuals in need. We offer:

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health New York provides programs and services for children and adults with intellectual disabilities Autism Spectrum Disorder and dual diagnoses. Located in Highland NY this position is responsible for preventing and responding to students in crisis. The Behavior Specialist (Crisis Support) will provide crisis intervention and other assistance as needed to maintain safety and program integrity. They will provide support to students who need a higher level of care to participate in instruction as needed and assist in implementation of skill acquisition and behavior support plans as directed. Under the direction of the classroom teacher they will assist in training other staff in implementation. The Behavior Specialist (Crisis Support) will administer and implement behavior improvement programs recommended by administration and appraise the effectiveness of the program in meeting the students needs. In addition they will advise staff on possible causes of students behavior and suggest methods of teaching alternative skills or modifying the environment.

Salary: (commensurate with education and experience)

With HS Diploma/GED: $21.50 - $23.00 per hour

With BA/BS: $22.50 - $24.07 per hour

With MA/MS or higher: $23.50 - $25.14 per hour

Qualifications

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required Bachelors Degree inpsychology human services or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE: At least one years experience with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Free of dependency and abuse of illegal or illicit drugs inhalants or other chemical or controlled substances. Significant prolonged and frequent amounts of walking standing sitting stooping bending and lifting of 50 pounds or more. Using standard crisis intervention procedures must be able to singlehandedly effect the initial restraint of children and adolescents. Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens.
