Job Summary
Position Summary:
The Music Director is a show assignment that provides artistic leadership of the music for a musical.
Duties:
- Collaborate with the director and choreographer to provide a concept/idea for the approach to a show.
- Attend production meetings to provide input for anything related to vocal requirements.
- Provide audition information including vocal needs and audition music cuts as needed for the production.
- Attend auditions and assist in casting the show. Director is required to get casting to the producer in 24 hours assist in meeting that goal
- Staff the band and turn the band member choices over to the producer for contract development
- Respond to any cast drops by collaborating with the director on updates including what the vocal requirements are and how well the performers will meet them and the need for any follow up auditions.
- Attend all rehearsals to teach music guide the actors and prepare the show for performance.
- Prepare for and provide a timely designer run through.
- Prepare the band by coordinating and running a band rehearsal as well as running a Sitzprobe.
- Attend all technical rehearsals to collaborate with designers and shape the production elements for the show.
- Attend any media requests as needed.
- Actively support COCAs commitment to safety.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Extensive experience in music direction and a proven track record in productions.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Advanced degree in music music education or a related field
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to think creatively and critically to solve problems and make decisions
