DescriptionPosition Summary:
The Lab Manager Senior in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology in the School of Medicine at Vanderbilt University is a key individual responsible for contributing to research projects. This position also performs routine duties to ensure the laboratory is prepared for experiments and assists with general laboratory functions. Working directly with the Principal Investigator the Lab Manager Senior will interact with faculty staff and students within the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology.
The position is categorized as full-time term.
About the Work Unit:
Our laboratory seeks a cellular and molecular understanding of event leading to diseases of the exocrine pancreas including pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. We are particularly interested in cell plasticity pathology and also possible treatment strategies for these diseases. We employ genetically engineered mouse models cell culture patient samples and immunostaining and molecular approaches. The working environment of our laboratory is very collaborative and collegial.
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
With minimum direction contributes to lab researchprojects
- Researches and collects data using appropriate lab experiments procedures andtechniques.
- Primary tasks involve maintaining our mouse colony and assisting trainees withresearch projects.
- Synthesizes analyzes and interprets data with assistance of other members ofthe laboratory.
- Reports on status of research activities in oral and writtenformats.
Assists in general labmaintenance
- Assists in sets up operation and maintenance of labequipment.
- Monitors inventory of supplies and assists withordering.
Performs routine duties to ensure the laboratory is prepared for experiments andmaintained
Perform administrativeduties
- Train new lab members such as undergraduate students research internsetc
- Act as labliaison
Supervisory Relationships:
- This position includes partial supervision oftrainees.
- The position reports administratively and functionally to thePI.
Education and Certifications:
- A Bachelorsdegreeinbiologyorrelatedfieldfromanaccreditedinstitutionofhigher education is required.
Experience and Skills:
- Abilitytounderstandandfollowbasicscientificresearchprotocolandprocedureisrequired.
- Knowledgeandexperiencewithgeneticallyengineeredmouse modelsisrequired.
- Knowledge and extensive experience in laboratorymanagement is required.
- Knowledge and experience with cell culture ispreferred.
- Ability to analyze and interpret scientific data ispreferred.
- Ability to understand and follow complex detailed technical instructions ispreferred.
