Job Summary

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold at least an Associates Degree in Nursing from accredited nursing program
  • Current unencumbered Texas RN License
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification at time of hire
  • Minimum of 2 year OR experience in an acute care facility

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Correlates clinical data with patients medical and nursing care and set priorities.
  2. Communicates well with patients families co-workers physicians other members of the healthcare team.
  3. Adheres to all facility policies and procedures when providing patient care.
  4. Demonstrates ability to direct and provide for patient care in emergency situations.
  5. Demonstrates continued competence in assessing treating and caring for individuals based upon age-specific needs utilizing a developmental perspective.
  6. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for OR Circulator position in patient care duties.
  7. Checks updated schedule each morning and prepares supplies and equipment.
  8. Completes review of medical record.
  9. Maintains patient normothermia.
  10. Promotes physical comfort and provides emotional support and safety for patient.
  11. Administers and documents medications as ordered by physician.
  12. Verifies surgical/procedure site with patient surgical schedule and patients History and Physical.
  13. Verifies and/or obtains signature on operative/procedure consent.
  14. Provides instructions according to patient need.
  15. Completes nursing documentation on each operative procedure
  16. Assembles supplies for cases according to schedule and preference cards.
  17. Completes thorough and efficient pre-operative patient interview.
  18. Practices and monitors aseptic techniques.
  19. Ensures that the surgical site time-out process is followed and completed.
  20. Takes responsibility for positioning patient relevant to procedure with awareness of body alignment circulation and pressure points.
  21. Applies electrosurgical return electrodes tourniquets etc. according to physician preference policies and procedures.
  22. Is accountable for accuracy and documentation of sponge needle and instrument counts.
  23. Properly labels and cares for specimens.
  24. Provides and records all intraoperative medications and obtains physician signature of administration of same.
  25. Reviews and updates physician preference cards.
  26. Has working knowledge of sterilizers.
  27. Assists physician and anesthesia personnel as needed.
  28. Provides emergency care according to physician and administrative policy.
  29. Performs all other duties as assigned by management.
  30. Fosters a positive and professional facility environment by interacting with all persons in a considerate helpful and courteous manner and by participating as a team member.
  31. Diffuses/resolves conflict by appropriately communicating with those involved.
  32. Accepts constructive feedback and gives suggestions in a professional manner.
  33. Maintains dress and appearance according to standards as observed by management.
  34. Demonstrates the safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation.
