Job Summary

Description

Under the close supervision of the Finance Manager will work closely with Governmental Accountants in supporting 39 departments across Kent District Library while applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) set by Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily accounts payable and cash receipts

  • Assist with monthly and year-end account and bank reconciliations.

  • Assist with year-end adjustments

  • Assist with audit prep and field work requests

  • Gain meaningful accounting experience working in the public sector

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


  • Must be a high school graduate and enrolled in a Bachelors Degree Program in Accounting Finance or related field at minimum in sophomore standing.
  • Ability to work with numbers and details including knowledge of arithmetic statistics and their application.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact with a wide variety of Library personnel vendors government agencies and others. Must be able to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform work under Finance Managers direction with latitude for judgment in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Computer skills necessary to effectively utilize accounting spreadsheet work processing database and other applicable software applications.
  • Visual acuity necessary to view a computer screen and written materials.

Additional Information

  • Generally will work within a normal office environment with minimal discomfort due to extreme temperatures dust and noise.
  • Occasional exposure to out of doors during programming and outreach events.
  • Work hours may be varied including evenings and weekend hours.
  • Frequent sitting/standing in one position for extended periods of time.

Meeting attendance at various branch and service center locations is expected; self-identified mode of transportation is required.
