Job Summary

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Senior Wireless Technician to work on our Wireless Research team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research Education Campus (REC) in Idaho Falls ID with every other Friday off. This position may require occasional travel to various INL facilities.

The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Wireless Technician to join our team. The Senior Wireless Technician will be responsible for the installation maintenance and troubleshooting of wireless communication systems. This role requires a deep understanding of wireless technologies strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a this role you must be able to work in various environments including office settings outdoor locations and industrial facilities.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Support scientists engineers analysts and cybersecurity researchers in a multitude of laboratory duties.
  • Assist researchers in designing assembling maintaining and modifying research equipment. Assemble equipment for R&D in accordance with detailed schematics.
  • Advise scientists on design and electrical code requirements heat loading efficiency and safety.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment and evaluate electrical assemblies for safety and security.
  • Compile and complete documentation as required both for operations and to assist researchers with specific R&D objectives. Analyze data in support of research objectives.
  • Assist with test range activities including experiments demonstrations and exercises.
  • Regularly inspect laboratories and lab equipment for electrical safety heat loading configuration management and protective features for both personnel safety and security.
  • Continuously monitor laboratory equipment for safe and efficient operation.
  • Assist researchers with the procurement inventory and maintenance of electronic components laboratory materials and equipment required to establish and maintain cybersecurity lab capabilities.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 6 years of direct/relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in instrumentation and controls electrical and electronic systems including maintenance calibration troubleshooting and repair.
  • Must be capable of evaluating electronic equipment for safe configuration heat loading electrical loading and compliance with applicable standards and codes.
  • In-depth knowledge of wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi standards (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax) cellular networks and RF principles.
  • Proficiency with wireless network tools and software (e.g. Ekahau AirMagnet Wireshark)
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance which requires US Citizenship.

Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is $35.30 min - $58.23 max. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education relevant experience and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification the employee is frequently required to stand walk sit stoop kneel and bend. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type handle materials manipulate tools and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment using a ladder and operating a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move over 35 pounds with assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. The ability to smell is required.
