Fire Fighter Instructor Lake Technical College

Position Summary
Lake Technical College is seeking a motivated and experiencedFire Fighter Instructorto join ourFire Academyinstructional team. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for teaching extensive fire service experience and a strong commitment to preparing students for successful public safety careers. This position involves classroom instruction skills demonstrations and hands-on training in accordance with theFlorida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training (BFST)requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Instruct students in accordance with theFlorida Firefighter I & II curriculumand Lake Tech policies.
- Deliver engaging safety-conscious instruction through classroom lectures practical skills training and live fire exercises.
- Evaluate student performance through written tests practical exams and participation.
- Maintain accurate attendance testing and training records.
- Ensure compliance with NFPA standards Florida State Fire College requirements and local academy procedures.
- Assist with program development course scheduling and maintenance of training equipment and facilities.
- Participate in professional development activities and instructor meetings.
- Foster a positive learning environment that promotes discipline teamwork and respect.
Advanced Fire Training Responsibilities
In addition to the basic Firefighter I & II program the instructor may also be assigned to teachadvanced fire training coursessuch as:
- Vehicle and Machinery Rescue Operations
- Trench RescueConfined Space andStructural Collapse Operations/Technician Levels
- Rope Rescue Operations and Technician
- Live Fire TrainingApparatus Operations andTruck Company Operations
Instructors assigned to these courses must hold the appropriateFlorida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training (BFST)certifications for each discipline and meet all instructional prerequisites as defined byFlorida Administrative Code 69A-37.
Minimum Qualifications
- CurrentFlorida Certified Firefighter II
- CurrentFlorida Fire Instructor I(Instructor II or III preferred)
- CurrentCPR and First Aidcertification
- Minimum of3 years of full-time experiencein fire suppression or fire service operations
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as training schedules require
Preferred Qualifications
- FloridaFire Instructor II or IIIcertification
- FloridaFire Officer I or IIcertification
- FloridaLive Fire Training Instructorcertification
- Previous teaching experience in a certified fire academy or similar training environment
- EMT or Paramedic certification
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to perform and demonstrate fire ground evolutions and physically demanding training scenarios.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs climb ladders and work in high-heat or confined space environments as required by training activities.
