Introduction

The Maryland Department of Commerce is seekingqualified applicants for the position serving as Director of Maryland FilmOffice within the Division of Business Attraction and Special Projects.

This is a Special Appointment position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

Main Purpose of Job

This Special Appointment position plans develops implements reviews and revises policies and objectives for the Film Office; directs and coordinates client services including location assistance and production company liaison support; oversees marketing initiatives and office administrative operations.

POSITION DUTIES

The duties consist of administering mandated film production activity tax incentive programs; and managing andcoordinating the Film Offices digital presence including its website onlinesearchable database and social media channels to ensure effective informationdissemination. The incumbent will manage the office budget to efficientlyachieve goals while maintaining fiscal responsibility in alignment with theDepartment of Commerce directives and procedures and support its mission ofjob creation and investment in Maryland and in service as the liaison betweenproduction companies government agencies businesses and organizations. State wide travel.

The selected candidatemust possess excellent interpersonalwritten and oral communication skills; demonstrated track record of successoperating in the film environment working with film leaders directors andstakeholders; considerable knowledge of the State of Maryland the film andcultural community and its unique tourism assets; working knowledge of andexperience with film production facilities techniques technology and therequirements unique to the film/video industry; current emerging trends withfilmmaking; experience negotiating and working with unions; and provenleadership skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Google and/or other relevant software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in BusinessArt Film Media Communications Marketing or a related field with aconcentration in art film marketing and strategic planning.

Experience: Eight(8) years direct film production experience that includes developing andexecuting innovative and strategic plans associated with the execution of filmproduction projects; and five (5) years responsible managementexperience in economic development programs to include fiscal and budgetmanagement and experience with tax incentive programs.

Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute the possession of aMasters degree from an accredited college or university for two years of the requiredexperience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forcesmilitary service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff workrelated to the administration of rules regulations policy procedures andprocesses or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as astaff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-yearbasis for the required experience.

Some Statewide travel isrequired.

Employees in this position maybe assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employeeassigned such duties will be required to possess a drivers license valid inthe State of Maryland.
