As the Medical Physicist for Aurora Integrated Oncology Foundation you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety accuracy and effectiveness of radiation treatments. The AIOF medical physicist works in conjunction with the radiation oncologists and radiation oncology team as the director of the technical aspects of radiation oncology responsible for all aspects of clinical radiation oncology physics.


You will work with Varian TrueBeam to deliver treatments (VMAT SBRT SRS/SRT 3DCRT and electrons) Eclipse and ARIA for TPS and EMR and a suite of physics efficiency tools from MIM Radformation and ImageOwl. An array of SNC equipment is utilized to assit with QA including the DQA3 device ArcCheck SRSMapCheck 1DTank and IC addition a IBA Blue Phantom 2 scanning tank with a variety of chambers and electrometers.


Our organization is proud to support a dedicated team of eight radiation oncologists across four advanced cancer treatment centers. This position offers the unique opportunity to work closely with three of our experienced physicians primarily across two of these state-of-the-art facilities.


Once fully staffed the two centers will be supported by a collaborative care team that includes five skilled radiation therapists full dosimetry support and an additional medical physicist. The typical patient load across these two sites ranges from 30 to 40 patients providing a dynamic yet manageable environment that allows for high-quality patient-centered care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance: Perform routine and annual quality assurance of linear accelerator treatment planning system linear accelerators and CT simulators ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Implement and oversee a comprehensive quality assurance (QA) program conducting weekly monthly quarterly and annual tests per manufacturer AAPM and IEMA guidelines.
  • Treatment Planning & Dosimetry: Oversee the treatment planning process by working closely with dosimetry verify patient-specific treatment plans and ensuring accurate dose delivery. Perform routine and necessary chart checks to verify the dose delivered to patients.
  • Radiation Safety & Compliance: Lead a thorough radiation safety program ensuring all radiation safety and licensing requirements are met in compliance with state and federal regulations. Lead quality improvement meetings projects and review submissions to the RO-ILS system.
  • Education & Training: Provide continuing education to radiation oncology staff on medical physics equipment and radiation safety. Coordinate and perform annual in-services for the department.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Coordinate the maintenance of instrumentation required for quality control image quality and patient treatment measurements. Oversee and approve service and upgrades on all radiation oncology equipment before clinical use.
  • Clinical Support & Consultation: Consult with radiation oncologists and treatment staff on the physical and radiobiological aspects of patient treatments. Participate in patient discussion conferences and assist in the development of new treatment techniques and procedures.
  • Research & Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of new radiotherapeutic treatment delivery techniques. Actively participate in chart rounds process improvement initiatives and departmental meetings related to practice improvement.

Requirements

Qualifications Education & Experience

Masters Ph.D. or DMP degree in medical physics

Certification by the American Board of Radiology or American Board of Medical Physicists

Minimum of one year of post-residency clinical experience preferred.
