Overview
SEDR Recruitment is seeking an experienced Plant Inspector to join a major civil engineering and earthworks contractor working across two of the UKs most significant infrastructure schemes HS2 and the Lower Thames Crossing.
This position suits someone who enjoys variety responsibility and being hands-on with heavy machinery. You will ensure a large and modern fleet of earthmoving equipment and vehicles are operating safely efficiently and in line with company and client standards.

Key Responsibilities
Carry out pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) on heavy plant and vehicles to ensure they are site-ready and compliant.
Complete on- and off-hire checks maintain photographic records and update inspection databases.
Inspect safety systems such as reversing alarms cameras and beacons to ensure operational compliance.
Check and maintain fluids grease systems and undercarriages carrying out basic greasing when required.
Conduct weekly condition checks on tyres ground engaging tools (GET) and other wear parts.
Support fault diagnosis and rectification working with OEM technicians or the plant desk.
Manage consumables and lubricants stock while maintaining COSHH compliance in workshop areas.
Issue and manage Permits to Work for maintenance teams.
Carry out minor fitting and maintenance tasks such as filter and bulb replacements.
This role will be split between the HS2 project in London and the Lower Thames Crossing offering exposure to large-scale high-value civil engineering work and a variety of modern earthworks machinery.
Requirements
Essential:
Experience inspecting or maintaining heavy plant or construction machinery within an earthworks or civils environment.
NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Plant Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering.
CSCS Blue Skilled Worker Card and a Full UK driving licence.
Good attention to detail and ability to maintain inspection records accurately.
Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all conditions.
Desirable:
CPCS A68 Plant Mover card.
Basic mechanical repair or welding experience.
Familiarity with major OEM equipment such as Caterpillar Volvo and Komatsu.
