The VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research Belgium is seeking a research technician to support a drug discovery project focused on antisense and gene therapy of Alzheimers disease. The candidate will work in a team of scientists dedicated to develop antisense oligonucleotides as disease-modifying therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases. Our strategy is based on an innovative all-in-human discovery engine platform deep understanding of disease genetics and pathophysiology and experienced translational biology.
The Role
The research associate will be responsible for conducting both in vitro and in vivo experimental work in our Leuven laboratory supporting ongoing research projects through a variety of tasks. Daily responsibilities will include neuronal cell culture preparation and analysis mouse monitoring drug administration and tissue collection and processing as well as a range of molecular biology techniques such as qPCR Western blotting ELISA and immunofluorescence. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to receive training and work with advanced technologies including 3D cell culture systems and xenografted mouse models in a dynamic and collaborative research environment.
Profile
- You possess a degree in Biomedical or Biological Sciences (Professional Bachelor/Master/Engineer) or equivalent.
- FELASA B license for animal work is required.
- Experience with animal handling and rodent models.
- Experience in blood and CSF collection is an advantage.
- Experience In cellular and molecular biology.
- Experience in stem cell culture and differentiation is an advantage.
- Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work in a team as well as independently.
- Ability to maintain accurate detailed and up-to-date experimental records (e.g. in an electronic lab notebook)
- Capacity to learn and apply new experimental techniques and technologies
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
