Description

The Radiology Proceduralist Assistant plays a vital role in supporting radiologists with a wide range of image-guided procedures while ensuring patient safety clinical accuracy and seamless workflow integration across procedural and diagnostic services. This role is essential in both direct patient care and non-interpretive radiology support contributing to clinical excellence educational advancement and quality improvement initiatives.



Responsibilities

Procedural & Clinical Duties
Perform and/or assist radiologists with image-guided procedures including fluoroscopy lumbar punctures arthrograms and outpatient spine/joint injections.
Set up procedure suites maintain sterile technique obtain informed consent and ensure accurate documentation in EMR.
Escort position and monitor patients throughout the procedure to ensure comfort and safety.
Facilitate communication and coordination with referring providers scheduling teams and nursing.
Reading Room & Non-Interpretive Support
Aid radiologists in reading room workflow by managing protocols managing communications and assisting with reporting logistics.
Draft preliminary documentation when needed for X-rays and select ultrasound exams (if trained and permitted under supervision).
Track critical findings follow-up recommendations and assist with scheduling imaging consultations when needed. Separate from reading room coordinator program currently instituted.
Education & Teaching Involvement
Actively support the educational mission of the department by mentoring and assisting radiology residents and fellows during procedures and daily workflow.
Participate in educational sessions workshops and orientation for new trainees.
Serve as a resource for clinical workflows and procedural best practices.
Administrative & Quality Initiatives
Participate in quality improvement research and protocol standardization initiatives within the division.
Help coordinate patient follow-up and loop closure for incidental findings.



Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree or higher in Radiologic Science or related healthcare field
  • Graduation from an accredited Radiologist Assistant program
  • Minimum of 2 years as a Radiologic Technologist
  • Preferred: 1 year experience as a Radiologist Assistant or similar procedural support role
  • Prior experience in a teaching hospital or academic medical center strongly preferred
  • ARRT certification (R.T.) required
  • ARRT certification as a Registered Radiologist Assistant (R.R.A.) required
  • NY State Radiologic Technologist license and Specialist Assistant license required
  • BLS and ACLS (AHA certified) preferred
