The Medical Assistant functions under the direction of the Physician Clinical Lead Clinical Nurse Supervisor Nurse Supervisor and/or Office Manager. Recognizes patients needs and symptoms in advance. Provides care for the patient under the physicians direction. Includes preparing patient for exams assisting during treatments coordinating tests and follow-up care and recording treatment in the medical record. Assists with explaining patient instructions to the patient/family. Demonstrates competency and skills to serve patients of all ages including neonate infant child adolescent adult and geriatric populations. Performs other duties as necessary related to front office registration laboratory testing and radiology functions within a specialty setting.
Clinical Duties and Expectations
Provides relationship-based patient centered care that is consistent with population specific characteristics (e.g. age gender disease etc.) in a manner that adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.
Partners with the patient and significant others and/or family (as appropriate); keeping the patient at ease in the office through a collaborative and communicative approach to all care rendered.
Prepares patient for the visit with the physicians/APPs.
Prepares rooms and equipment and aids physicians/APPs with treatment of patients.
Carries out orders generated from the office visit. Responds to patient requests generated outside of the office visit.
Maintains the safety needs of the patient at all times.
May be required to support front office operations by assisting with check-in check-out scheduling and other non-clinical functions.
