Job Title: College & Career Specialist
Reports To: Regional Director
Hours: Full-time Monday-Friday 10am-7pm including occasional evenings and weekends
General Purpose:
The College and Career Specialist empowers middle and high school Members to explore and achieve postsecondary success. This role supports both college and career readiness by facilitating educational and workforce pathways providing individualized guidance and fostering partnerships with schools employers and community organizations. The ideal candidate is passionate about youth development skilled in program facilitation and committed to equipping young people with the tools experiences and confidence needed to succeed in college career and life.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Program Development & Facilitation
Design implement and lead engaging workshops on:
o College applications financial aid (FAFSA CADAA) and scholarships
o Career exploration resume writing interview skills and workplace readiness
o Job search strategies professional communication and workplace expectations
o Financial literacy time management and soft skills development
Provide one-on-one and group guidance to Members on educational career and employment planning.
Coordinate experiential learning opportunities including:
o College visits career shadowing internships job fairs and workplace tours
o Hands-on projects and service learning that build transferable skills and work experience
Support Members in securing part-time jobs summer employment and volunteer opportunities that align with career interests.
Stay informed on labor market trends in-demand skills and best practices in workforce development and postsecondary planning.
Partnerships & Collaboration
Build and maintain strong relationships with local schools colleges employers workforce development agencies and community organizations.
Collaborate with school counselors career centers and staff to identify and recruit students for programs and opportunities.
Work closely with internal staff to integrate college and career readiness into broader youth development services.
Partner with employers to create job placement mentorship and apprenticeship opportunities for Members.
Family & Community Engagement
Plan and host college and career information nights and job readiness workshops for Members and families.
Communicate effectively with families to support Members educational career and employment goals.
Advocate for Members particularly those facing barriers to postsecondary education or employment.
Outreach & Promotion
Promote programs and opportunities through flyers newsletters social media and school/community events.
Actively participate in outreach to increase Member engagement and program visibility.
Highlight Member success stories in employment internships and college admissions.
Data & Reporting
Track program participation employment outcomes college enrollment and other success metrics.
Prepare reports for internal teams funders and community partners as needed.
Use data to inform program improvements and demonstrate impact.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Education Social Work Counseling Workforce Development Human Resources or related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 23 years of experience working with youth preferably middle or high school students.
Knowledge of college admissions financial aid scholarships career readiness job search strategies and workforce development resources.
Strong facilitation public speaking and coaching skills.
Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with schools families employers and community partners.
Excellent organizational written and verbal communication skills.
Commitment to equity inclusion and youth empowerment.
Bilingual abilities a plus.
