Opportunity to Retrain as a Nuclear Technical Author

Full Time

Glasgow Hybrid (3 Days in Office)

An excellent opportunity has arisen for Engineers with Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (NSRP) experience to retrain with us to become a Nuclear Technical Author.

We are expanding the service we provide so this is a unique opportunity to join our Systems Department which is part of our Submarine Services Delivery Business Unit based in Derby.

Utilising your in-depth experience and knowledge of Submarines as a Nuclear Watchkeeper (Cat C or higher) or engineer with relevant NSRP experience we will support the development of your IT skills to enable you to join our team updating PWR2 operating manuals (Atomic Books) the production of a set of new Atomic Books for Dreadnought class and SSNA (PWR3 and PWR3) and supporting document approvals by the relevant Rolls-Royce / MoD Safety approval groups.

As a Nuclear Technical Author you will be in regular contact with personnel within the Safety and Engineering teams and liaising with MoD INA and BAES.

We will invest in training you and develop your IT skills to become competent using Publications Software Tools to enable you to apply your technical knowledge and expertise to become a Nuclear Technical Author within our team.

You will ensure the plant and support equipment is supplied through life with accurate and up-to-date technical and operational documentation in accordance with contract requirements and agreed programme deliverables (time cost quality).

What you will be doing:

In this role you will be maintaining and applying the technical publication standards.

  • Authoring a new suite of Atomic Books for PWR3 platforms.
  • Supporting maintenance of PWR2 Atomic Books and other in-service documentation.
  • Supporting the production of PWR3 Ships Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Attending approval group meetings and workshops (occasional travel required).
  • Providing advice on documents and illustrations to create maximum impact and effect.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements.

Position Qualifications:

  • CAT C (or above) Watchkeeper Submarines experience or NSRP experience.
  • Ability to read / interpret technical drawings
  • Strong communication and problem-solving capabilities
  • IT Skills Microsoft Word Excel

Formore than 60 years Rolls-Royce Submarines has designed supplied and supported the nuclear propulsion plant providing power for all UK Royal Navy nuclear submarines.
