An overview of the role within the Company

The role of Principal Process Engineer is an integral member of the engineering team and is responsible for supporting the Companys Process Engineering function and delivery and commercialisation of the clients technology. The successful candidate will join the Company at a pivotal stage of project development and will bring their enthusiasm and energy to deliver key milestones associated with the implementation of new technology and commercial applications for efficiency environmental and economic benefits.

The role involves technology development and project delivery of Company technology and projects. This role requires someone who can combine their extensive engineering experience with effective influencing skills to thrive in a fast-paced environment in which change and innovation are required each day to ensure the delivery of net zero aviation travel by 2050.

The successful candidate will be able to provide demonstrable experience of managing a Process team to include the management of external engineering contractors. Accountable for planning directing organising executing and controlling Project and Process engineering activities for specific projects they will be able to make fact-based and sound engineering decisions and be capable of creating innovative solutions to engineering challenges. This is a hands-on role requiring a team player who is able to manage competing demands upon their time. They will be an effective communicator with the ability to apply their enthusiasm and passion for maintaining a first-class engineering capability for our clients.

Responsibilities

Personnel Responsibilities

Serve as the Process Engineering Lead in the Houston office.
Be an example of safe work habits at work and home.
Support and drive company PDP and technology development.
Assess and improve the technical competence of Process Engineering personnel.
Hire capable Process Engineers and assist in their introduction to the client and their new coworkers.
Perform annual performance reviews using the clients systems and provide feedback to employees.
Be an official mentor to staff as assigned. Be an informal mentor to all Process Engineering staff.
Promote career development within the process department.
Other duties as assigned.

Project Responsibilities

Coordinate with the Project and Execution Team and forecast requirements for Process Engineering resources.
Assign Process Engineering staff appropriately for project needs.
Ensure Process Engineering commitments are met throughout the department.
Promote inter-discipline communication and cooperation and resolve interface issues that arise.
Perform a broad range of process engineering technology assignments.
Plan and conduct work in evaluation selection and application of standard process engineering techniques procedures and criteria.
Routinely work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Design process equipment such as pumps tanks vessels etc.
Conduct hydraulic studies.
Create new and updated PFDs and P&IDs.
Promote use of High Value Engineering office.
Promote cost reduction and productivity enhancing initiatives.
Periodically review work of others to assure overall quality of process designs.
Check compliance with the clients quality assurance/safety/sustainability standards.
Ensure department cost and schedule promises are kept during project studies and execution.
Other duties as assigned.

Relationship Development and Communication Responsibilities

Develop strong relationships with engineering contractors technical sales and operations.
Participate in global engineering team initiatives.
Promote the clients culture and communication development within the Process Engineering department.

Engineering Capabilities

Capable of working on engineering studies or project production including leading a Process Engineering team.
Strong knowledge in chemical engineering fundamentals P&ID development equipment sizing hydraulic calculations and PSV sizing.
Coaching and mentoring of process and other engineering staff in the Houston and High Value Engineering offices.
Develop and maintain internal design standards consistent with the most updated tools and processes within the client.
Participate in client meetings throughout project execution to ensure clear communication between the client and stakeholders.
Become immersed in the clients project history and capabilities and market them to clients both directly and through presentations.
Understand the clients work process maps to anticipate process engineering activities during near-term project execution to assist lead engineers and assigned projects.
Demonstrate a visible and active commitment to achieving corporate delivery and execution requirements.

What You Will Bring

Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

15 years of demonstrated Process Engineering experience executing projects in the oil and natural gas or chemical industries.
Demonstrated capability as a Process Engineering lead for multiple simultaneous projects.
Comfortable and capable of using soft skills to address personnel needs and challenges.
Substantial experience of working in multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
Highly effective technical and practical engineering skills and ability to consistently deliver quality accurate and timely work to the client and its customers.
A sound knowledge of the fundamental requirements of Process Engineering and the basic requirements of other engineering fields.
A sound knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory requirements.
Develop understand control and follow the effort-hours budget and process schedule.
Interact closely with client and contractor process engineers and project managers to meet design objectives project deadlines and budgets.
Work with instrument controls group to write control narratives.
Interact with vendors to select the most economical option for equipment.
Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices in all areas of assignments.
Contribute to planning and coordinating work.
Competent use of Process Engineering specific software including development of:
AspenTech products (HYSYS Flare System Analyzer etc.)
Honeywell Unisim products
Hydraulic modelling software
Other internal and external calculation tools and software
Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite.

Education and Experience

A bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering is essential.
Extensive industrial experience with demonstrable global-scale chemical processing industry experience either in petroleum refining/production and/or an energy-related sector.
Proven experience in delivering large capital projects on time within budget and to specification with a bias toward applying sound knowledge of engineering principles to complex and integrated plant designs and operations ideally with emerging technologies experience.
Experience from early engineering definition and technology development through to detailed engineering construction commissioning and start-up.
Experience of working across multiple project sites on a global scale.
Previous engineering roles held at an EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction) contractor is desirable but not essential.
Experience with XTL technologies particularly Fischer-Tropsch and/or renewable fuels is a distinct advantage.
Proficient knowledge of MS Office to an advanced level is required.
Prior experience of applying pragmatic problem-solving and innovative thinking working independently but equally comfortable operating in a team delegating and providing motivation when appropriate.
Willingness to take ownership and responsibility with the ability to accept input from other individuals as appropriate.
Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management coworkers clients vendors contractors and visitors.
Job-related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local state/province and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
