Position Summary

The Department of Earth and Environmental Science at Temple University ( invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Hydrology within the College of Science and Technology to begin July 1 2026. We seek an outstanding scholar and teacher who will contribute to our mission of academic excellence innovative research and inclusive education.

The successful candidate will develop a highly creative externally funded research program mentor a diverse cohort of graduate and undergraduate students and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in geology / environmental science. Collaboration among faculty is strongly encouraged to leverage the departments established expertise in hydrogeology human-environment interactions surface processes and sedimentary systems energy environmental and polar geophysics climate science and oceanography geochemistry and planetary geology.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in groundwater hydrology.

Conduct scholarly research and publish in peer-reviewed venues.

Seek external funding to support research activities.

Mentor and advise students from different backgrounds.

Contribute to departmental college and university service.

Qualifications

Required:

Ph.D. in Geology Earth sciences or a related field completed by start date.

Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship.

Commitment to creating inclusive and accessible spaces for all students

Preferred:

The specialization within hydrology is flexible. Teaching experience or potential in groundwater hydrology is a plus but not required.

Experience in teaching and mentoring students from different backgrounds in an inclusive setting.

Evidence of collaborative and interdisciplinary work.

The Department of Earth and Environmental Science provides rigorous training in geological and environmental science to undergraduate (BS and BA Geology BS Environmental Science) Masters (Geology and Environmental Geoscience) and Ph.D. (Geoscience) students.
