The Department of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University is recruiting for two substantive full-time psychiatrists for Nova Scotia Healths (NSH) Central Zone Community Mental Health and Addictions (CMHA) Program.
These positions are 1.0 FTE based in the Community Mental Health Team with the flexibility to work at other Central Zone CMHTs and community services e.g. Recovery and Integration services as required. These jobs will have an integrated transcultural component e.g. Brotherhood Sisterhood Friendship Center and MOSH (Mobile Outreach Street Health/North End Community Health Centre). The estimated commitment for the transcultural services is approximately 8 hours twice a month.
Roles and Responsibilities:
To be the Attending or Consultant physician for ambulatory patients in the CMHA Program.
Conduct order and ensure appropriate psychiatric assessments appropriate psychosocial and laboratory investigations and pharmacological & psychosocial interventions as per current standard practice.
Participate in a psychiatry on-call schedule as required within the clinical program unless specifically exempted.
Share in the short-term coverage of other services as needed during holidays or the illness of other department members.
Experience working within an interdisciplinary team to provide care and treatment for persons with moderate to severe psychiatric disorders.
FTE details: 100% clinical duties including clinical teaching but may require using up to 0.1 (10%) FTE for classroom teaching quality assurance initiatives committee work leadership or other activities that support the departments academic mandate.
Clinical duties:
- As directed by the head of the section of community psychiatry at Dalhousie University
- Clinical direct and indirect care as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Clinical desk-side teaching and didactic education
- Clinical administration
- Include on-call service
- Involve clinical teaching of junior staff including residents and clinical clerks
- Support clinical research as needed (and conduct it if personally desired)
Educational Duties:
Didactic teaching at the undergraduate postgraduate and continuing medical education level as determined in discussion with the director of education Department of Psychiatry.
Qualifications :
Eligibility:
Fellowship in Psychiatry Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent e.g. MRCPsych with Certificate of Completion of Training in General Adult Psychiatry or American Board of Psychiatry Certified by Examination as determined by the Department of Psychiatry; eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
