Job Summary

Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements

The knowledge skills and abilities to successfully perform this job are typically acquired through a bachelors degree in accounting or a related field of study and one to three years of job-related experience. Alternate combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Preferred Education and Experience

In addition to the minimum educational and experience requirements work experience specific to the captive insurance industry or its regulation is preferred.

Professional Designations

  • An Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI) designation from the International Center for Captive Insurance Education or willingness and ability to obtain the ACI designation is required.

  • Other recognized industry credentials or insurance regulator designations may also be considered.

Ideal Candidate Profile and Competencies

We are looking for candidates who bring the following education experience and competencies:

  • Education: A bachelors degree in accounting or a related field of study.

  • Certification: An Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI) designation from the International Center for Captive Insurance Education or willingness and ability to obtain the ACI designation.

  • Experience: One to three years of related job experience.

  • Regulatory Expertise: Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply Montana statutes and administrative rules to evaluate compliance.

  • Analytical Skills: Keen attention to detail and the ability to assess the financial position of a company through review of financial statements and other documentation.

  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills including effective business writing spelling punctuation and grammar.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues industry professionals and the public.

  • Customer Focus: Strong customer focus attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills and effective time management flexibility and multitasking abilities.

Job Overview

We are seeking a candidate to fill the role of Financial Examiner II Captive Insurance Analyst in our Examinations Bureau. The primary goal of the team is to facilitate the licensure of captive insurance companies and monitor their financial performance and compliance with Montana law thereafter. This position requires an intermediate level of knowledge of the captive insurance industry its regulation and all relevant Montana law. Excellent customer service skills and a willingness to promote the Montana captive domicile on a national stage are also required. This is an on-site position located in Helena Montana.

What can you offer us

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following essential functions and other similar tasks:

  • Financial Analysis: Perform financial analysis of Montana-domiciled captive insurance companies to detect and act upon conditions that may lead to financial loss by the companies policyholders.

  • Application Reviews: Conduct reviews of captive insurance company applications business plans proforma financial statements and various company requests to assess permissibility and effects on solvency.

  • Formations and Dissolutions: Facilitate the company formation and dissolution processes collaborating with the CSI Legal Department as necessary.

  • Review of Business Plan Changes: Complete reviews of requested business plan updates dividend and loan requests and other requests received from captive insurance managers.

  • Make Recommendations: Provide input to CSI management regarding the development of insurance legislation and regulations as well as recommendations for financial examinations of captive insurance companies.

  • Data Management: Collect and manage data create reports and identify trends.

  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service and represent and promote the Montana captive insurance program to the public. Fulfill all public service provider governmental or regulatory inquiries in a knowledgeable and professional manner.

  • Professional Growth: Attend captive insurance conferences and training events. Take the initiative to enhance industry knowledge and make professional contacts.
