The mission of the Secretary of States office is to serve the public by meeting its legal responsibilities of collecting securing and communicating information that enhances commerce ensures the integrity of Louisianas elections and preserves presents and makes accessible government information essential to Louisianas operations and its recorded history.
The Records Management Section of the Archives Division of the Secretary of State is seeking an Archives Specialist A B or C to assist state agencies and the records management program with their records management needs.
AN IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES:
- Communicating Effectively: The ability to relay information correctly and appropriately to connect people and ideas.
- Developing Plans: The ability to prioritize tasks and competing demands to create accurate plans.
- Displaying Expertise: The ability to exhibit specialized skills or knowledge gained from experience or training
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in historical research archival operations records management records preservation or college-level teaching in a humanities field; OR
Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR
A bachelors degree.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties:
- Research state and federal laws regarding records management.
- Meets with state and parish government representatives to assist them in developing and managing their records in an efficient and economical manner.
- Collaborates with state and parish government agencies in the development of their records retention schedules.
- Reviews state and parish government agencies disposal requests to determine if their records have met retention and are eligible for destruction.
- Presents training to state and parish government agencies on records management practices.
Preferred Skills:
- Efficient organized and a self-starter.
- Skilled at legal research.
- Possesses a working knowledge of Louisianas governmental organizational structures operations and functions.
- Demonstrates a commitment to learning.
