Job Summary

LC State invites applications for the position of Security Officer Senior.

Salary and rank based on experience and qualifications: $17.50 - $18.00 per hour

Required Qualifications:

  1. At least 1 year of experience in a security-related field.
  2. Possession of a current valid state drivers license upon employment.
  3. Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  4. Basic computer skills including Windows Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel and Internet Explorer/Firefox/Chrome.
  5. Be able to pass a criminal background check.
  6. Good knowledge of self-defense measures First Aid/CPR/AED security problems and safety hazards as they relate to a college or university setting which includes a large complex of buildings and grounds students staff faculty and community members.
  7. Experience performing investigations incidental to security activities and completing investigative reports.
  8. Good knowledge of building security procedures.
  9. Experience applying fire and life safety hazards.
  10. Experience evaluating and handling disturbances and security emergencies reading applying and following written and oral instructions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Associate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in criminal justice or a related field.
  2. At least 1 year of experience in a security-related field preferably in a college or university setting.
  3. Military or law enforcement background.
  4. Current first aid/CPR/AED certification.

Responsibilities:

Safety and Security

  1. Work both independently and as a team with other Security Officers.
  2. Enforce college policies in a fair consistent and professional manner.
  3. Conduct building and perimeter patrols via foot.
  4. Conduct building perimeter and off-site patrols via vehicle
  5. Respond to emergency calls for service such as medical calls suicidal subjects disruptive/mentally disturbed subjects (issue banning forms when necessary) suspicious subjects/activities fire alarms etc. contacting emergency response agencies (i.e. police fire ambulance etc.) as necessary.
  6. Respond to non-emergency calls for service such as motor vehicle assists (jump starts and lockouts) security escorts door locks/unlocks building access requests etc.
  7. Provide initial assessment and intervention on confrontations between individuals on college-owned properties.
  8. Assist housing staff in the residence halls and campus housing areas with issues such as domestic disturbances drug/alcohol incidents disruptive/mentally disturbed subjects fire alarms etc.
  9. Assist housing officials with room searches and maintain surveillance of potentially volatile situations.
  10. Observe and report any cases of suicide or suicide attempts sexual assault or other critical events to the proper personnel.
  11. Write accurate and complete incident reports as required.
  12. Maintain direct communication with Campus Security Dispatch via cell phones and two-way radios.
  13. Observe report and correct (when possible) critical maintenance problems such as inoperable lights and emergency phones ice on walkways blocked fire exits unsecured doors etc. as they arise and complete work orders as needed. Safely bag inoperable parking meters and emergency phones.
  14. Respond to fire and trouble alarms assist with the evacuation of occupants direct emergency personnel assess causes reset alarms (including fire alarms if instructed by the Physical Plant or the Fire Department) submit work orders etc.

Liaison

  1. Establish positive working relationships with students staff faculty and visitors.
  2. Assist in developing a positive sense of community throughout the College campus.
  3. Support Residence Life policies to promote a quiet secure safe study and living environment.
  4. Communicate security-related needs and information to various entities via person-to-person contact telephone e-mail etc.
  5. Assist law enforcement agencies with Lewis-Clark State students staff and/or faculty matters.

Other Duties as Assigned

  1. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director and/or Associate Director of Public Safety and/or College Administrators.
  2. Additional duties include direct and indirect activities to support the recruitment and retention of students.
