Job Summary

Location: Office of Ministry and Missions
Hours: Part-Time Hourly
Pay: $17.68 - $23.99

Job Summary: Manage the Vision Trips Program increase program awareness and coordinate the continuation and expansion of short-term mission trips in various academic disciplines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Mission Trip Logistics
  • Coordinates Vision Trips with at least 70 students being sent annually
  • Creates and oversees the vetting process for locations. o Manage online application and interview processes.
  • Book flights and transportation
  • Register trips with US Department of States Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) o Works with the University Health Center and Travel Medicine to facilitate needed vaccines. o Purchase short-term travel insurance for all participants. o Transfer funds to host organizations.
  • Communicates with host sites ensuring that all details on the ground are arranged.
  • While not required to go on each trip the Coordinator may occasionally be requested to be a chaperone for students on one of the Vision Trips; in such cases travel offsite for up to one or two weeks will be required and the Coordinator will be expected to participate in all activities of the service events.
Budget
  • Works with VPSL to maintain a healthy budget.
  • Develop detailed mission trip budgets.
Fundraising
  • Creates fundraising letters.
  • VPSL will work with Advancement to identify potential funding sources.
  • Track donated funds by students as well as general donations and endowment funds.
  • Work in cooperation with VPSL to communicate balances to charge with Student Finance o Runs Giving Tuesday and Giving Day campaigns.
Promotion/ Programming
  • Plan at least one convocation per year.
  • Plan at least one Vespers service per year & participate in the dedication Vespers o Plan a week of missions emphasis. o Participate in recruiting events: Organization Showcase Ministry Expos etc. o Collaborate with VPSL to maintain a comprehensive informative engaging user-friendly website.
  • Oversee the recruitment process for all trips sponsors student leaders professional volunteers and student volunteers.
Training & Evaluation
  • Teach NOND 308 Mission Trip Class: two training days and a hybrid online/ in-person course.
  • Grade students assignments for NOND 308 Mission Trip class- discussions quizzes and final reflection paper.
Innovation
  • Collaborate with existing partners to develop new trips with special focus to diversifying service opportunities for all majors.
Supervision
  • Serve as primary supervisor for Vision Trips student worker(s).
  • Set performance goals and project deadlines for assistants that align with the OMM plans.
  • Delegate work to student employees track progress and provide constructive feedback throughout projects.
  • Ensure student employees adhere to student handbook policies.
  • Conduct performance reviews motivate team members and develop strategies to enhance productivity.
  • Manage the office schedule.
Data Management
  • Maintains academic records and communicates trip statistics to VP for Academics and NAD Office of Volunteer Ministries
Committees
  • Trips Committee
  • Transformation Tuesdays (Tuesdays at 11 am) as needed.

Special Requirements: Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ the teachings and mission of the Seventh-dayAdventist Church and be an SDA church member in good and regular standing.

Qualifications and Attributes:
  • A vibrant personal growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Must have a desire to serve in a spiritually uplifting and redemptive atmosphere and must be supportive of the universitys mission and goals
  • The employee must always practice confidentiality of information.
  • Love for students and an ability to connect with them relationally.
  • Bachelors degree in public relations communication business nonprofit administration or a similar field.
  • Experience in planning mission trips.
  • Good written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions and Typical Physical Demands:
Required Service events are performed in various indoor and outdoor settings with potential exposure to construction site materials inclement weather dust unpleasant smells and loud noise. If personal protective equipment (PPE) is required it will be provided.
During service events employees may do the following:
  • Move transport and position materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Position themselves to perform light construction tasks including stooping kneeling balancing crouching crawling in confined spaces and ascending/descending ladders.
  • Traverse uneven terrain.
  • Use manual dexterity of hands and fingers to handle and feel materials including the operation of hand tools and some small handheld power tools.
