Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Student Echo Vascular should be a student enrolled in an accredited Echo or Vascular Program. Under direct supervision of a registered sonographer the student assists with patient exams gaining hands-on experience. All work is reviewed and signed off by the supervising sonographer ensuring accuracy and patient safety. Rotation with different sonographers is required. Adherence to HIPAA regulations and a strong commitment to patient confidentiality are essential.

Essential Function
Enrolled in an accreditedEcho and or Vascular program.
Students must have a sonographer working with them on all exams.
The student and sonographer must first seek permission from the patient for the student to participate in his or her care.
The sonographer is ultimately responsible for all work performed by the student.
If the sonographer feels the student is ready they may allow the student to work independently with the patient but the sonographer will remain in the department and available to assist the student as needed.
All work performed by the student will be checked verified as accurate and correct and then signed off by the sonographer before the patient leaves the lab.
Both the student and the sonographer are to sign the exam worksheet.
Students are allowed to agitate the Ultrasound Enhancing Agent ( Definity ) after 3 months of clinical experience.
Students will be limited to only one (1) per sonographer or exam room. Students are to work with a different sonographer from day to day (they are not to stay with the same person).
Students are not allowed to prepare the Definity contrast or Bubble Studies. Students are not allowed to inject Definity or perform Bubble Studies.
Students must abide by all HIPAA laws. Students are required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement prior to or on their first clinical day.

Job Requirements

High School Graduate or GED

Must be enrolled in an accredited Echo or Vascular Program

Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR)
