Job Summary

Echelon Engineers are working with a long-established precision manufacturing business that supplies bespoke mechanical components and assemblies across multiple process industries. They are seeking an experienced Manufacturing / Purchasing Engineer to join their operations team and take ownership of all manufacturing-related procurement.

This is a key role within a hands-on environment ideal for someone with a strong mechanical background who thrives on ensuring materials components and outsourced machining arrive on time to spec and within budget.


The Role

  • Manage end-to-end purchasing activities from sourcing raw materials to securing machining and secondary processing services.

  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure reliability quality and cost efficiency.

  • Collaborate closely with fabrication production and stores teams to maintain optimal stock levels.

  • Negotiate pricing and delivery schedules while keeping quality standards uncompromised.

  • Ensure all goods and services meet technical and quality specifications.

  • Maintain accurate records and compliance with company procurement policies.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across supplier performance and internal processes.


Key Requirements

  • Proven background in manufacturing purchasing within a mechanical engineering environment.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings BOMs and engineering specifications.

  • Strong understanding of machining processes and raw materials.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • ERP experience (Sage 200 or similar) and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • A proactive detail-driven mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
