About the job

Advantra is partnering with a YC-backed space communications startup in San Francisco to hire a Frontend Engineer to own the web-based Cascade Portal for spacecraft communication system design.

About the role

You will build and maintain the frontend of a production-grade application used for planning high-stakes space missions. You will collaborate with the team to design APIs contribute to open-source tools and implement best practices for development testing and deployment. Reliability accuracy and usability are critical.

Responsibilities

1. Own and maintain the frontend of the Cascade Portal.
   

2. Collaborate with engineers to design and specify backend APIs.
   

3. Contribute to the open-source spacelink repository as needed.
   

4. Implement frontend best practices CI/CD workflows and testing standards.
   

5. Ensure reliability and correctness in mission-critical software.
   

6. Participate in design reviews and code reviews.
   

7. Support deployment and monitoring of web applications.
   

8. Work closely with the team to align on architecture and features.
   

Core requirements

1. 2 years of professional software engineering experience.
   

2. Expertise in React for building production-grade web applications.
   

3. Backend development experience.
   

4. Strong alignment with startup culture and mission-driven work ethic.
   

5. Ability to produce reliable verifiable and maintainable software.
   

6. Experience collaborating in small high-performing teams.
   

7. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and development workflows.
   

8. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
   

9. Willingness to work on site in San Francisco.
   

10. U.S. Person status (citizen permanent resident or asylee/refugee).
    

Nice to have

1. Background in math science or engineering.
   

2. Backend experience with FastAPI or Flask.
   

3. Familiarity with cloud-native architectures (AWS GCP Azure).
   

4. Prior experience with open-source software contributions.
   

5. Knowledge of aerospace or satellite communications systems.
