Position Overview:
Reporting to Director-Operations while heading a 23-member Research & development team
providing design direction and prototype building of “High-Precision” planetary gearboxes
cycloid gearboxes and test rigs used in material handling robots tool magazines in VMC
conveyors and other automation applications. Proficiencies in new product development
detailed analysis proto development proto testing and validation of precision gearboxes.
Expertise in leading the R&D team and ensuring high quality professionalism effective
management of cultural and organizational diversity. Bringing forth extensive experience in
performing research on product development processes and offering solutions and
alterations to improve product this role the individual will actively involve and
manage the team in working in areas of new product development according to the market
needs and aligned with organizational performing these activities the individual will
interact and collaborate with the internal & external stake holders of the organization. The
individual will oversee both the development activities of gearboxes according to the framed
development roadmap and ongoing production activities focusing on improvements and
optimization. The ideal candidate will have deep technical knowledge of precision gearboxes
gears and non-standard gearboxes as well as significant experience of cross-functional
collaboration in a manufacturing or industrial environment along with proven experience in
leading the design team to achieve business objectives.
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for research planning and implementing new programs and protocols
and to oversee the entire development process of new products and programs within
the organization. Manage all phases of the design process for a gathering of products
components parts assemblies and subassemblies.
Use creative abilities and research methods to improve existing products based on
industry trends and develop new products to meet the needs of the company’s target
market by collaborating with Marketing and Operations.
To keep track of all the costs related to the creation of these new products and decide
what ideas are worth pursuing. Stay informed on what is happening in the research
and development field at large to make sure the company is up-to-date and current
with the most advanced R&D developments.
Develop engaged employees through effective employee development best practice
sharing performance management and successful planning.
Create maintain and manage department budget.
Manage the stage gate Product Development Process (PDP) adherence reporting and
changes.
Develop department budget based on project prioritization and resource leveling.
Effectively interact with other departments and organizations (eg: QA Production
Process Planning & Control Sales & Marketing Purchase Customer and suppliers).
Provide people-care management for assigned team members including hiring
setting and monitoring of annual performance plans coaching and career
development; ensures that proper knowledge and career development tools are in
place to support ongoing team member and process development.
Stay abreast of latest technologies techniques and best practices. Foster best
practices in project management software utilization and product lifecycle
management.
Carryout bench-marking exercises to ensure the company’s products are in line or
exceeding customer expectation or competitor’s products with latest technology
upgradation in products
Exercises significant independent judgement within broadly defined policies and
practices to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives.
Work with entire supply chain to launch into production from supplier engineering
manufacturing product validation through launch to operations meeting total cost &
quality objectives.
Development of a best-in-class product development process and testing protocol for
all development efforts within the business. Detailed design review and approval
considering material selection heat treatment process lubrication selection and
manufacturing process of all critical components comprising of housing shaft gears
and bearing (ball angular contact cylindrical and taper roller).
Creating action plans and timeline including contingency planning and establishing
goals roles and responsibilities and communicate impact driven plans to senior
management the broader organization and external market ecosystem.
Responsible for design and development of new test rigs and test facilities required
for proto validation and End of line (EOL) testing.
Expertise on evaluating design models for DFMA and form-fit-function compliance.
Overcome expensive rework through careful design review that identified flaws in new
subassembly and parts models prior to production.
Authoritative to verify design documents which includes drawings ECR ECN work
instruction test report design verification plan and design output review.
Involved in initiating identifying selecting and approving potential suppliers for new
product requirements.
Continual improvement activities on the product have to be planned and executed for
enhancing the product performance.
Lead the team for problems / complaints arising inhouse or from Customers using
latest Problem solving techniques 6-Sigma Methodology to arrive at accurate root
cause and recommend robust permanent Corrective actions
Responsible for QS 9001 implementation and adherence in R&D function
Responsible for ensuring the team to follow company policies procedures at all times
Ensures the KPI’s of the team / subordinates are aligned to the company’s objective
and strives / drives to meet or exceed the targets contributing to company’s growth
Supports / encourages Continuous Improvement Philosophy in all areas
Key qualifications:
Education:
BE / B-Tech – Mechanical Engineering or
ME / M-Tech – Mechanical /Design Engineering
Desired Experience:
10 years of experience in design and development of new product preferably
precision gearboxes
Commendable leadership experience with proven track record of managing and
motivating design engineering team
Demonstrated success in developing and handling a new product from scratch until
product launch including testing and validation
Preferable skill sets:
Experience in
Design knowledge on Gears & Gearbox (Experience in Planetary & cycloid design is
added advantage) and test rigs
Knowledge in modelling & drafting practice in CAD tools-Creo & AutoCAD
