The Lead Manufacturing Engineer will develop in-depth technical knowledge and have significant autonomy over the manufacturing processes for which you are responsible. You will support the manufacturing assembly and testing of aerospace electrical power products working on a cross-functional team to resolve daily manufacturing challenges troubleshoot/resolve product issues perform root cause and corrective action activities and implement strategic projects. You will deploy/enhance manufacturing processes lead component failure analysis and drive continuous improvement. You will provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members. At this level you are expected to perform your job functions with limited assistance limited supervision and have capability to apply sound engineering judgement to complex situations.

Our Vandalia facility is located 50 minutes north of the GE Aerospace headquarters and sits just north of the city of Daytonknown widely as the birthplace of aviationwhere the Wright Brothers built the worlds first aircraft in their bicycle shop in the heart of downtown Dayton. This business boasts a rich history in operation for over 100 years. At over 140000 square feet the Vandalia facility rests on 25 acres right off Interstate 75.


At GE Aerospace in Vandalia we specialize in manufacturing and servicing world-class power generation and electrical control and distribution equipment for a variety of military and commercial customers. Vandalia is also home to a product development lab where operators and engineers work together to invent the future of flight.

Job Description

Role & Responsibilities

  • Maintain support and improve the manufacturing/testing processes for aerospace electrical power generating products via the following responsibilities.
  • Ensure manufacturing planning clearly communicates the sequence and method of production for complex products while aligning with established planning standards engineering design and quality requirements.
  • Control a wide variety of sophisticated manufacturing processes validating those processes are well defined and deemed capable of meeting design requirements and yield expectations.
  • Specify/design necessary equipment tooling and fixturing.
  • Troubleshoot complicated product failures determining root cause and implementing short-term and long-term corrective actions.
  • Use production and quality data to drive and implement creative and unique process improvements that support Safety Quality Delivery and Cost targets.
  • Lead and effectively interface with production planning engineering sourcing and production teams to complete transformative projects that support Safety Quality Delivery and Cost targets. Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously including scope definition project planning scheduling resource management budget control and compliance.
  • Initiate and participate in Lean activities.
  • Utilize structured continuous improvement methodology and problem-solving tools to solve significant challenges.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members both formally and informally.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma/GED with at least 7 years of experience in manufacturing and/or operations)
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing and/or operations

Addition Information

  • This position requires U.S. citizenship status.
  • Ability and willingness to site onsite at the GE Aerospace facility in Vandalia OH 5 days per week
  • Start time for this role is typically 6:00am eastern
  • A typical work day will require 8-10 working hours based on business needs
  • Some off-shift and weekend work may be required based on business needs

Desired Qualifications

  • Mechanical Electrical Aerospace Engineering degree
  • Knowledge of aerospace production methods and processes.
  • Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work in a matrixed organization and work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.
