The Opportunity:

The School of GeoSciences is looking for a highly organised and proactive individual to join our team as a Postgraduate Taught Administrator. As a key member of the Teaching Organisation team you will be responsible for course and programme administration for a designated discipline of postgraduate programmes.

You will be responsible for a range of administrative tasks related to the learning and teaching of postgraduate programmes. Following the framework of the academic cycle we work to key deadlines to support the success of our students. Responsibilities of the role include processing assessment marks preparing exams supporting committees organising field trips and processing payments and expenses.

Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be key to your success role as we work as a team to provide a professional service to both students and academic colleagues. You will need to be proactive in seeking out information and be able use initiative to solve problems.

Proficient IT skills are crucial for this role as it entails working with the entire suite of Office 365 applications. Familiarity with university systems and reporting tools is advantageous but not mandatory as training will be provided. Experience in supporting committees and planning events would also be beneficial to the role.

The role is based in the Institute of Geography in Edinburgh. As a postgraduate programme administrator you will be part of a dynamic and supportive team working in a collaborative environment to help our students achieve their academic goals. This post is part time (21 hours per week); and we are open to considering flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

Please note this is a fixed term maternity cover for 12 months from February 2026 until February 2027.

The salary for this post is 29588 to 33951per annum.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Proven excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-motivated high-standard for customer service
  • Proven ability to use initiative and a proactive approach to seeking out information
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrable IT skills with experience across all Microsoft Office suite including Outlook Excel and Word. Experience of University systems and databases will be beneficial.
  • Proven ability to plan and prioritise work independently and also as part of a team to meet deadlines
