The Role

Candidate will provide technical and programmatic lean-in to existing department sections performing naval operational automation and control systems software development and test applying advanced technical principles theories and concepts. Candidate will design and define system & software architecture for new or existing complex computer systems (Embedded and PLC based) to include defining specifications/requirements processes and tools. Candidate will coordinate the design of subsystems and integration of the total system resolving issues and recommending corrective actions. Candidate will serve as the CHENG Office NNS Associate Technical Fellow for Software working on unusually complex technical problems and providing solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious; the candidate will also act as advisor to management and customers on advanced automation and control system technical topics. Candidate will also support talent acquisition and development to include mentoring and coaching.

Designs develops documents tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning design development and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent output requirements input data acquisition programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers utility programs and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.

Must Have

Bachelors Degree and 14 years of relevant exempt experience; Masters Degree and 12 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 9 years of experience.

Nice to Have

Master of Science in Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering or Computer Science
Professional Engineering License in Computer Engineering Control Systems or Electronics/Controls/Communications
