Job Summary:
Our client who operates in the telecommunications industry is seeking an experienced IP Network Engineer to join their team. The IP Network Engineer will be responsible for designing implementing and managing the companys international IP transit and core backbone network infrastructure. The role requires strong technical expertise in network engineering hands-on experience with multiple hardware vendors and leadership capabilities to manage a diverse technical team. The ideal candidate is analytical self-motivated and adaptable with proven experience in maintaining complex network environments and ensuring optimal performance and security.
Responsibilities:
Design build and maintain the companys international IP transit and core backbone network infrastructure.
Configure manage and optimize routers and switches across platforms such as Cisco Juniper IP Infusion and Mikrotik.
Implement and fine-tune network protocols including BGP OSPF VLAN VXLAN and spanning tree.
Monitor and analyze network performance and security using diagnostic tools such as Wireshark Nmap and Observium.
Manage configure and secure firewalls to maintain a robust network security posture.
Troubleshoot complex network issues and provide expert-level technical solutions.
Oversee and support FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) network operations.
Collaborate with power and cabling teams to resolve infrastructure-related challenges.
Mentor train and manage a multicultural technical team of four.
Prepare regular performance and status reports for senior management.
Requirements
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science Information Technology Telecommunications or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years experience in IP network design implementation and management.
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP BGP OSPF VLAN VXLAN and spanning tree protocols.
Proven hands-on experience with Cisco Juniper IP Infusion and Mikrotik network equipment.
Proficiency in firewall configuration and network security management.
Familiarity with network monitoring and diagnostic tools such as Wireshark and Nmap.
Demonstrated leadership and team management experience in multicultural settings.
Ability to work independently take initiative and handle technical issues proactively.
Excellent communication analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Linux operating systems is an added advantage.
Understanding of FTTH fiber network technologies is desirable.
Willingness to relocate to The Gambia for the duration of the 3-year contract.
Flexibility to provide on-call support when required.
