About the role

Focused on the future of Western Australias main electricity system the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) but collaborating closely across the AEMO business you will contribute to strategic future market and power system modelling activities and AEMOs response to identified order to support our ability to maintain power system security and reliability through the energy transition.

You will support the WA Future System Design team and broader AEMO business in evolving AEMOs system modelling capabilities and communicating identified risks to the industry through the SWIS Engineering Roadmap Electricity Statement of Opportunities and Gas Statement of Opportunities.

While preferably located in Perth multiple locations are available.

What you will be doing

  • Support AEMOs future system planning and design activities by evolving AEMOs modelling capabilities in collaborating with industry partners and provide technical advice on mitigating identified future risks to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide engineering expertise and advisory services to support reform development and implementation by ensuring that new policy regulatory and market mechanisms take appropriate account of technical and power system engineering requirements. This includes the delivery of projects and initiatives that help proponents value the service contributions from their assets and early works for transition points ready for handover to AEMO Operations.
  • Translate AEMOs latest technical understanding from the SWIS Engineering Roadmap ESOO and other related industry publications into a form that can be easily digested by participants market bodies governments and a wider non-technical audience.

What you will bring to the role

  • Degree in power system engineering or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing maintaining and analysing outcomes using PLEXOS models.
  • Strength in coding with Python.
  • Understanding of the operation and planning of large power systems and the engineering challenges that need to be addressed as the SWIS transitions.
  • Well-developed analytical skills sufficient to review critique and approve the modelled outcomes that underpin key messages to stakeholders.
