This position will assist with general maintenance throughout the state park grounds facilities and equipment. Job duties include cleaning and completing minor repairs to park facilities maintaining hand and power equipment performing landscaping tasks etc. Utilization of hand tools small-powered tools including weed eaters etc. will be required. The position will also be tasked with assisting the Skilled Tradesman-Trails Maintenance Coordinator with maintaining the parks 54-miles of trail system via trail condition assessment and trail repairs utilizing a variety of hand and power tools. Previous trail mountain bike skill would be beneficial as the provided bike would be used to assess trail conditions and reach remote work sites.

Applicants must have a valid drivers license and a drivers record check will be performed. A criminal background check is required. Applicants will be required to work one weekend day every week and must be able to work a flexible schedule including some early mornings and holidays. The work schedule will be 32 hours a week four days a week approximately 1800 hours annually. This position requires fieldwork so the applicant must have the ability to complete medium to heavy physical tasks; traverse a variety of terrain and may work in inclement weather. This position receives paid holidays and retirement.

Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements except for certification or licensure requirements upon approval of the qualifications review committee.

Job Summary

The Park Specialist is responsible for assisting in the daily maintenance visitor services and conservation efforts within Arkansas state parks. This role ensures that park facilities landscapes and public areas are well-maintained safe and accessible for visitors. The Park Specialist also provides customer service educates guests on park regulations and supports recreation programs to enhance the overall visitor experience.

Primary Responsibilities

Receives and confirms room reservations via telephone accepts advance credit card deposits and manages front desk room confirmations deposit receipts and refund forms to and registers guests assigns rooms and ensures a smooth check-in inquiries and provides information on hotel services guest registration travel directions and local tourist accurate guest account records and posts charges and balances the cash register with recorded receipts identifying and reconciling daily activity and transaction sell gift items maintain office supply inventories conduct security checks of the lodge and grounds and assign tasks to custodial transfers displays and promotes and closes facilities prepares deposits and assists with daily operational merchandise orders and collaborates with vendors to obtain requested and coordinates inventory activities prepares inventory orders and maintains data in relevant inventory records and ensures accurate tracking of supplies and the assigned facility is clean organized and meets housekeeping monetary transactions and operates a cash register as serve as a lead worker by training and guiding staff setting work plans and deadlines providing instructions and reviewing completed tasks for accuracy and be assigned accounting-related duties including financial reporting and transaction friendly and informative customer service to park visitors answering questions about park features rules and park policies and regulations to ensure public safety and proper park safety hazards and ensure compliance with state and federal enforce emergency protocols during severe weather conditions or special events and recreation programs by setting up and assisting as needed.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and accounting with general office practices and to comprehend and prepare oral and written materials including ledgers journals reports and in establishing and maintaining organized filing in answering telephones greeting visitors and providing accurate information and in operating standard office of computer systems and commonly used software of database management inventory control practices and financial grasp of customer service principles and best to creatively arrange and display merchandise to enhance customer of coordinating instructing and reviewing the work of others in a lead or supervisory organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Minimum Qualifications

At least six months of experience customer service bookkeeping retail operations or a related field.

Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications including years of experience and service does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management taking into consideration the employees demonstrated skills competencies performance workload responsibilities and organizational needs.
