The Underground Mechanic is responsible for maintaining troubleshooting and repairing a wide range of mining equipment and light vehicles to ensure safe reliable and efficient operations. This role involves both underground and surface work on mobile and fixed equipment requiring strong technical expertise adherence to safety standards and the ability to work in challenging conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PMs) inspections and repairs on underground and surface mining equipment including:
- Sandvik LHDs drills and haul trucks
- Normet utility and support equipment
- Caterpillar and Komatsu loaders and auxiliary equipment
- Light vehicles and support units.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic electrical pneumatic and mechanical systems to diagnose faults and implement effective solutions.
- Conduct field repairs in underground workings as required minimizing downtime and ensuring equipment is safely returned to service.
- Follow OEM manuals technical prints and site-specific maintenance procedures.
- Complete accurate work orders PM checklists and equipment service records.
- Maintain safe work practices at all times including proper lockout/tagout JHA completion and compliance with mine site safety policies.
- Collaborate with operations supervisors and other maintenance personnel to prioritize repairs and support production needs.
- Provide feedback on equipment condition recurring issues and recommend improvements to reliability and performance.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and assist in training apprentices or junior mechanics.
Qualifications :
- Previous experience in underground mining maintenance strongly preferred.
- Hands-on knowledge of Sandvik Normet Caterpillar and Komatsu mining equipment.
- Familiarity with underground support vehicles and light-duty fleet.
- Ability to read OEM manuals hydraulic/electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Strong diagnostic skills with mechanical hydraulic can bus and electrical systems.
- Proficiency with laptops and diagnostic software for OEM equipment

- Schedule is a 7 on and 7 off schedule DS/NS and overtime as needed.
Working Conditions
- Work performed both underground in a mining environment and on surface in workshops or yard facilities.
- Exposure to dust noise vibration diesel emissions and varying temperatures.
- Use of PPE required at all times (hard hat steel-toe boots safety glasses gloves etc.).
