The SURE (Substance Use Recovery) Outer East program is part of Eachs Mental Health and AOD stream supporting individuals and communities to achieve recovery and wellbeing. Your role your impact
As an AOD Counsellor you will make a meaningful difference in the lives of people navigating substance use and mental health challenges. Youll provide recovery-oriented therapeutic programs advocate for clients and help them build on their strengths while connecting meaningfully with community resources.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of clients delivering trauma-informed strength-based counselling using modalities such as motivational interviewing ACT CBT and mindfulness.
- Create recovery plans and support clients in service navigation and advocacy.
- Build and maintain referral pathways with local GPs mental health and AOD providers.
- Coordinate care with other health and social services.
- Lead community and sector connections to improve service planning and delivery.
- Document clinical work accurately and ensure compliance with program requirements.
- Support clients in implementing harm reduction strategies and connecting with community resources.
- Manage ethically complex and crisis-driven situations upholding Eachs policies on safety and confidentiality.
Who were looking for
Were seeking someone who is passionate about supporting recovery and wellbeing with the following skills and experience:
- Experience working with AOD clients both voluntary and mandated.
- Experience in therapeutic counselling for co-existing drug and alcohol mental health and family violence issues.
- Strong interpersonal skills non-judgemental attitude and ability to engage clients and stakeholders.
- Adaptable solution-focused and open to feedback and professional development.
- Collaborative team player with cultural competence and appreciation for lived experience in recovery.
- Experience working within a large or complex organisation.
Mandatory qualifications:
- Degree level qualification (or higher) in Counselling
- Completed or completing competencies in dual diagnosis (for at least the first 6 months)
- Minimum qualification AOD Skill Set
- CPR competencies
- MARAM training or willingness to undertake upon commencement
- Current state-based drivers license without limitations and with the ability to transport clients

- Certificate IV in Youth Work Social Work Psychology or Advanced Diploma in AOD.
