Job Summary

Join us and contribute to the development and commissioning of industrial control systems for CERNs largest power installations. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge automation technologies and modern software engineering tools.

Your responsibilities

Design develop and commission large distributed control systems based on Siemens S7-1500 PLCs and the CERNs UNICOS framework.
Development and use of digital-twins.
Contribute to the development of SCADA applications with Siemens WinCC OA.
Contribute to our CI/CD and automated testing framework.
Supervise students.

Experience in developing testing and commissioning Siemens S7-1500 PLC-based control systems.
Knowledge of automation technologies including industrial fieldbuses and SCADA.
Experience with Python programming.
Knowledge of Git Gitlab and CI/CD practices.
Familiarity with system testing or digital-twins.

Skills:

Siemens S7-1500 PLCs and TIA Portal.
Industrial fieldbuses (Profinet) and HMI/SCADA (WinCC WinCC OA).
Python.
Strong communication skills.
Spoken and written English with a commitment to learn French.

Skills that would be an advantage.

Git Gitlab CI/CD.
Matlab Simulink.
Digital twins and Hardware-In-The-Loop (HIL) testing.

Eligibility criteria:

You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
You have a professional background in Automation or Software Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
- a Masters degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Additional Information :

Contract duration: 24 months with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

A monthly stipend ranging between 6287 and 6911 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).

30 days of paid leave per year.
