Purpose

The City of Milwaukee is dedicated to delivering excellentmunicipal services for our community. The City of Milwaukee tows approximately25000 vehicles annually keeping Milwaukee residents and visitors safe byremoving vehicles that are traffic hazards or have been parked incorrectly onpublic roadways or parking areas. The Citys Towing staff is committed toproviding pleasant efficient customer service.

The Tow Lot Attendant provides customer service andassociated data entry for the intake and release of towed vehicles and sharesresponsibility for quality control inventory and evaluation for all vehiclestowed.

Essential Functions

Vehicle Processing and Release

  • Document identify and verify vehicle information to ensure that the record contains correct data for inventory and quality control.
  • Obtain or verify vehicle ownership lien holder or other information for notification purposes.
  • Validate information and coordinate record corrections with the Parking Information Desk (PID) and the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) to ensure accuracy.
  • Evaluate vehicles for value damage make model and other information.
  • Determine future dispositions based on applicable state statutes and vehicle market value.
  • Use and create database queries to locate vehicles establish/create dispositions identify entry errors or questionable dispositions and evaluate data to determine ownership or inconsistencies in ownership or vehicle data.
  • Coordinate vehicle releases to ensure that all customers are served in a timely and orderly manner.
  • Assess and document the condition of all vehicles at the time of release.
  • Ensure that the correct vehicle is released to the authorized agent or is recycled or sold based on legal timeframes.
  • Determine and report the status of all vehicles to the MPD.
  • Complete Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and other vehicle forms using spreadsheets and databases.
  • Utilize technology including handheld devices and printers to inventory vehicles and produce vehicle identification labels.

Lot Maintenance

  • Perform Tow Lot maintenance including snow removal by truck shovel or snow blower; salting; and cleaning such as sweeping and loading car parts into a truck bed.
  • Use a tow truck skid steer loader and end loader for various operations within the Tow Lot.
  • Maintain existing equipment and supply inventory.

Customer Service

  • Answer inquiries from customers tow drivers MPD and others regarding vehicle status.
  • Respond to electronic or written information requests.
  • Request services from other City departments.

Conditions of Employment

The Tow Lot Attendant must be willing and able to do thefollowing:

  • Drive various types of passenger vehicles including both automatic and manual transmissions.
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers pliers wrenches lockout kits and hammers to remove license plates open car doors and perform vehicle adjustments to enable vehicles to be driven off the lot.
  • Be available to work any shift and to rotate shifts when needed.
  • Be available to work extended hours.
  • Work outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions.
  • Perform medium physical work including climbingkneeling crawling crouching standing walking reaching and making repetitive motions.
  • Lift and move objects weighing 50 lbs. or more occasionally up to 20 lbs. frequently and up to 10 lbs. consistently.
  • Pass a comprehensive background check.

The preplacement medical requirements for this positioninclude the following:

  • Physical Examwith 50 lb. lift test
  • Audiogram
  • Vision Test
  • Drug test

Minimum Requirements

  1. One year of customer service inventory and/or automotive support experience that included performing data entry.
  2. Valid drivers license at the time of appointment and throughout employment.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may beconsidered.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Familiarity with database queries and reports.
  • Professional automotive customer service experience or mechanical experience.
  • Vehicle inventory and evaluation experience.
  • Ability to understand and fluently speak read and write in Spanish.

  • Ability to read interpret and apply work-related documents such as statutes ordinances and policies.
  • Ability to utilize standard computer applications such as Outlook Microsoft Word PowerPoint Excel Access and other database programs.

  • Ability to effectively use equipment such as handheld devices and printers to enter query and manipulate data and to provide associated documentation.
  • Ability to drive and operate towing vehicles and equipment.

  • Ability to perform maintenance tasks such as snow and ice management and cleaning.

Current Salary

The current starting salary (Pay Range 8BN) is $47105annuallyand the resident incentive starting salary for City of Milwaukeeresidents is$48518 annually.
