The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is currently seeking a full-time contract (1 year) Program Officer to support on-going activities within the division. Reporting to the Research Operations Manager Geriatric Psychiatry Research you will also have accountability to the Chief of Adult Neurodevelopment and Geriatric Psychiatry Division. You will assist the Research Operations Manager in: providing mentorship and coordinating support to Geriatric Mental Health Services Research team including Research Coordinators Research Analysts and trainees; support for some human resources management functions such as recruitment and performance monitoring; acting as a support for clinical research activities in the division; and supporting the key accountabilities as listed below. This includes managing small projects developing and implementing processes training research staff and scientists on new systems monitoring and providing and in-depth review of documentation and assisting the Research Operations Manager with large scaled projects.
Key Accountabilities
- Training and support of all new research staff (including research coordinators research methods specialists research analysts and research trainees)
- Support the Research Operations Manager with monitoring day-to-day activities of research staff and communicating responsibilities and work assignments
- Monitoring key staff and research project performance indicators and supporting quality and safety initiatives
- Supporting the management of research projects and coordination of multiple project sites across Toronto; preparing and tracking REB submission and SAEs; tracking and reporting study milestones and sponsor deliverables.
- Assisting the Research Operations Manager with budget forecasting monitoring budgets annual progress reports and preparing financial reports.
- Development of Standard Operating Procedures for the division in collaboration with applicable stakeholders as necessary
- Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and communicating with participating study sites regarding study status enrollment study conduct and project issues as applicable
- Support with other administrative duties as necessary (including scheduling key stakeholder meetings managing the calendars and distribution lists assisting with maintaining CVs for clinician scientists supporting with grant submissions).

The successful candidate must have an Honors Bachelors Degree in a related field e.g. Health Administration Public Health Psychology or Neuroscience with a minimum of three (3) years of related professional experience working on projects in the field of mental health and addictions. At least 1 year of research operations experience is preferred. Previous research or service with individuals and/or families with mental health and addictions issues is addition the successful candidate will possess the following skills:
- Excellent interpersonal skills along with the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams including research and clinical staff and research administrative personnel
- Highly detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and good judgment and effectively work independently while supporting a fast-paced high-functioning work environment and monitoring personal and team-level deliverables
- Well-honed time management skills with the ability to efficiently multi-task and produce high-quality accurate work while meeting deadlines maintaining flexibility to changing priorities and remaining solution-focused. Demonstrated experience working on multiple projects is ideal.
- Experience mentoring staff or students is considered an asset
- A strong understanding of Quality Assurance practices and Research Ethics Board submission procedures
- Familiarity with research regulatory guidelines is required
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written
- Previous demonstrated ability to recruit individuals into research studies and an understanding of the complexities of working with patient populations
- Familiarity with Finance procedures along with the ability to manage budgetary data and knowledge of human resource management practices is an asset.
- Ability to work effectively in a variety of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
- The successful candidate will have advanced influencing and negotiation skills organizational and root cause analysis as well as the ability to solve complex problems and recommend solutions.
- This position requires ability and flexibility to work on multiple projects excellent planning and time management skills and the ability to multitask and lead projects with tight deadlines.
