Job Summary:

The College of Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a part-time Clinical Assistant Professor (HS) / Clinical Advisory Dean.

The Clinical Advisory Dean (CAD) serves as a dedicated mentor and advisor to approximately 15 third-year and 15 fourth-year medical students annually. CADs guide students through key academic and career milestones during their clinical years providing one-on-one support and expert advice.

Key Responsibilities

• Third-Year Students:
  • Meet a minimum of three times annually
    • Sept/Oct: Transition to clerkships and early career planning
    • Jan/Feb: Senior year schedule and elective planning
    • June/July: Academic review career strategy and MSPE preparation
• Fourth-Year Students:
  • Provide structured advising on the residency application process
    • June/July: Application overview
    • Aug/Sept: Personal statement and MSPE drafting; CV/application reviews
    • Oct: Mock interviews (as needed)
    • Jan/Feb: Rank list review
• CADs also attend two-to-three annual meetings with Career Services and fellow CADs and are expected to consult with Career Services about student concerns. All scheduling is centrally managed but CADs must offer availability during daytime and early evening hours. This role is in addition to current clinical/academic duties unless otherwise adjusted by departmental leadership. Flexibility from students and Career Services will support the integration of these responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:

• Advanced degree such as MD PhD DO or equivalent in a field related to medical education.
• Distinguished record of scholarship and be an accomplished teacher or passionate mentor in the field of medicine.
