Working Hours:18.5 (0.5 FTE) Monday to Wednesday (half-day or full day on alternate weeks) with occasional evening and Saturday morning working on an agreed rota.

A part-time archivist position has become available at the Record Office for Leicestershire Leicester and Rutland. We are therefore looking for a qualified archivist to join the team. You will use your professional skills and knowledgeto ensure the preservation and development of the collections whilst deliveringpublic access in a wide variety of ways.

About the Role

Duties include regular searchroom supervision and direct work with our service users and visitors. We operate a walk in and a document production on demand service for the public for both the archive and the local studies collections. Your responsibilities will also include ensuring that the data held within the collections is managed in line with all relevant legislation.

As part of the archivist team you will share responsibility for surveying and accessioning new records and collections as well as cataloguing to professional standards using Calm Axiell systems.

You will also work alongside colleagues in Collections Management and Conservation and with our Learning and Audience Development teams.

About You

Candidates are required to have the following:

  • Be a qualified archivist (with a postgraduate archive qualification) with experience of working in a public record office or other archive repository. Have experience of working with the public and the provision of an information service with experience of cataloguing archive collections to professionally recognised standards. Use professional knowledge to support policy making and support new initiatives.
  • Have a sound knowledge of professional theory and practice including archival arrangement and descriptions and experience of cataloguing using electronic archival cataloguing systems. Knowledge of local history sources is also required.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of UK GDPR and DPA 2018 and ensures that analogue and digital information is stored and managed appropriately and in an accessible and consistent format.
  • Excellent written verbal and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential. Deliver excellent customer services and can produce clear and concise written communications appropriate to the target audience and respond to what internal and external customers need.
  • Take responsibility for your own time and deliver on objectives to agreed deadlines but also demonstrate a flexible approach and persistence when demands change. Maintain good working relationships particularly through periods of pressure and encourage volunteers and colleagues to develop to the best of their ability.
  • Have a current driving license and access to a vehicle.
