Role description:

The primary focus is Traffic Signal and/or Roadway Lighting design for transportation facilities and the successful candidate will work with technical staff to prepare preliminary and detailed traffic/intersection design Drawings Estimates Specifications and Proposals. You will also assist in preparing reports as to the nature status and results of design or study assignments.

This role will also include working on client relationship building and management including taking part in business development activities proposal preparation organizing staff resources establishing project budgets and schedules. You will communicate effectively with clients and internal team members (Engineers Architects Designers and Project Managers) in the design and specification development of electrical lighting and communications systems projects within an integrated multi-disciplinary project delivery team.

Role accountabilities:

The successful candidate will lead and contribute to the successful design production coordination and management of Roadway Illumination and Traffic Signal projects.

You as Engineer-of-Record will coordinate with Utility and Roadway agencies on all Technical fronts in terms of developing traffic signal/intersection and roadway illumination designs in AutoCAD and/or Microstation such as layout equipment details and photometrics.

As may be separately directed by other Electrical Engineers/Managers you may assist developing deliverables such as wiring diagrams power calculations and Electrical Engineering designs compliant with ESA codes or relevant acts/standards.

Under this capacity you will also render utility coordination duties as they relate to roadway illumination and traffic signal projects including the preparation of technical reports tender documentation and field support (including commissioning Traffic signal turn-on and site inspection).

This person will verify or validate that Engineering deliverables (e.g. drawings specifications analysis budget estimates) comply with applicable regulations standards corporate procedures and sound engineering practices review drawings to ensure accuracy completeness and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC programs and ensure that project deliverables are met in a timely manner to a high quality including engineering stamped drawings and preparing final reports. Additionally as Project Reviewer or Project Manager you will render program-management services for a series of major and small size projects.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Traffic or Civil Engineering
  • 10 years experience in roadway illumination and intersection/traffic signal design ideally in a consulting or utility environment
  • . designation in Ontario (or eligibility); PTOE preferred
  • Proficient with AutoCAD MicroStation AGI 32 and RP-8 (latest version)
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manuals (Books 5 7 12 15) Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) Highway Traffic Act (HTA) MUTCDC and TAC technical manuals
  • Valid drivers license and access to a vehicle
  • Experience with 22/04 certification and liaising with utility authorities
  • Experience with pole loading software (e.g. SPIDAcalc) is an asset
  • Experience in site inspections construction supervision and contract administration
  • Experience working on MTO Minor and Major Electrical projects; Major RAQS qualification is an asset

The salary range for this position is $87000 - $134000. The base salary represents Arcadis hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors such as location skills experience and qualification for the role.
