Sun Chemical is hiring! We are seeking Chemical Operators and Quality Control Technicians to join our team at the Richmond location. Come out for our open interview date on October 27th 2025 from 9:00am-1:00pm.

Title:Chemical Operator

Location: Richmond VA

Shift: 8:00am - 4:30pm or 10:00am - 6:30pm

Candidates must be open to either shift

Hourly: $21-$23/hr

POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Chemical Operator is responsible for mixing/blending of materials operation of process equipment material handling instrument monitoring record keeping and forklift operation. Must follow all safety procedures and act in a safe manner at all times.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Read understand and follow batch tickets to achieve production schedule
  • Gather and weigh ingredients (Scale operation)
  • Combine ingredients in a designated sequence
  • Provide samples to the Quality Control lab
  • Pack and label the product into designated containers
  • Operate equipment with an inserting system
  • Trouble shoot mixing equipment
  • Clean the equipment and plant and dispose the waste
  • Responsible for stock rotation and minimizing partial containers
  • Responsible for ingredient traceability
  • Proficient in all areas of and the ability to operate SAP Inventory function and perform inventory cycle counts
  • Conduct preliminary quality checks
  • Report near miss incidents and improvement opportunities
  • Participate actively in all plant safety initiatives programs and training sessions
  • Participate on plant teams and serves as a trainer for employees and/or new hires
  • Comply with OSHA required activities for PIT
  • Comply with DOT regulations for Hazardous Material transport
  • Wear appropriate PPE at all times and maintain a clean work area
  • ISO - Follow all standard operating procedures with respect to performance of position duties and stays updated on all applicable procedures
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Basic computer skills understanding of electronic batch ticketing (EBT) systems with the ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to follow directions and work well in a team
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Math skills and ability to work with percentages
  • Capable of repeatedly lifting 55 lbs. and standing for long periods of time
  • Ability to work on elevated surfaces using stairs or step stools when required.
  • Ability to work 40 hrs. weekly and overtime

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 years of experience in a production/manufacturing environment preferably in batch manufacturing
  • Sit-down and/or stand-up experience preferred.
  • Experience following safety procedures.
  • Experience working around flammable material a plus .

Title:Quality Control Technician

Location:Richmond VA

Shift: Monday-Friday 9:00am 5:30pm

Salary: Non-Exempt - $40k-59k/year

POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for testing inspecting and evaluating raw materials in-process samples and finished ink pigment and coating products to ensure they meet established quality standards and customer specifications. This role supports manufacturing operations by maintaining accurate data identifying nonconformities and contributing to continuous improvement in product quality and consistency.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform routine and non-routine testing on raw materials intermediates and finished inks pigments and coatings using standardized test methods.
  • Operate calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments.
  • Record analyze and interpret test results maintaining detailed and accurate laboratory documentation in accordance with ISO and internal QA procedures.
  • Approve or reject materials and finished batches based on test results and specifications.
  • Communicate test outcomes promptly to Production R&D and Quality teams to resolve quality issues or deviations.
  • Assist in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action implementation for quality incidents.
  • Support color matching and batch adjustment under supervision when required.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness safety compliance and adherence to environmental and chemical handling regulations.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance product consistency reduce waste and optimize testing efficiency.

REQUIRED EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Possess goodmathematicalandanalyticalskills.
  • Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills.
  • Need sense of urgency and ability to multi-task.
  • Abilityto troubleshootandproblemsolve.
  • 1-3 years of experience in quality control

PREFERREDEXPERIENCE:

  • Understanding of color theory and pigment dispersion principles.
  • 13 years of experience in quality control or laboratory testing within the ink pigment paint or coatings industry preferred.
  • Familiarity with color measurement rheology testing and coating application methods.
