Job Summary

Job Title: Accounts Receivable (AR) Clerk


Department: Business Office

Supervisor: Associate Bursar/Bursar

Status: Part-Time Hourly Non-Exempt

Date: October 2025



Job Summary:

Responsible for all payments to student accounts and department budgets. Full knowledge of student accounts in order to assist students and authorized users to understand the billing process. Help establish a manner of payment for balances. Maintain a close working relationship with all offices affecting the students accounts to enable the Business Office to best serve the student and authorized users.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist students and authorized parties via front counter telephone email with inquiries
  • Apply payments to student accounts and departmental budgets
  • Respond to inquiries regarding student accounts and payment plans
  • Balance daily cash receipts
  • Prepare bank deposits
  • Process NSF checks and related fees
  • Work with monthly payment plans
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as necessary
  • Process daily posting reports and financial aid transmittal
  • Manage process of establishing accounts for Employer Reimbursement.
  • Monitor past due accounts; identify accounts for pre-collection efforts and accounts for placement.
  • Post collection agency payments to individual student accounts.
  • Other duties as assigned



Supervision Received: General Supervision


Supervision Exercised: None.


Education: High School graduation or GED equivalency.


Experience: Three (3) years work experience in accounts receivable or related work experience. Customer service experience preferred.


License or Certification: None


Occupational Group: Clerical and secretarial



QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT

  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic and making arithmetic calculations
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
  • Ability to work accurately with many interruptions
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to exercise important human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with the students and their parents
  • Ability to get along with co-workers
  • Avoidance of violent behavior that threatens the safety of the employee and/or other employees
  • Consistent and reasonable attendance
  • Maintain acceptable standards of conduct within an office environment
  • Some accounting experience beneficial

Physical Requirements: Within the general range of an office environment
