PRISM III Grades 4-5 Scaffolds PLC
Description: Teachers in grades 45 are invited to participate in a Professional Learning Community (PLC) focused on developing and implementing effective scaffolds to support all learners. The PLC will meet for 4 sessions after school and will provide time for collaborative planning student work analysis and professional reflection. Each session will be one hour and will meet from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Requirements:
- Open to all grade 4 and grade 5 classroom EL and inclusion teachers.
- Teachers must commit to attending all four sessions to receive the stipend.
Preferred qualifications:
- Strong growth mindset and collaborative skills
Student-centered approach to literacy instruction with high expectations for student achievement.
Purpose of the PLC
The focus of this PLC will be to deepen teachers understanding and use of scaffolding strategies that ensure access to grade-level content for all students including multilingual learners and students with disabilities. Teachers will engage in collaborative inquiry share effective practices and design scaffolded lessons aligned to the CKLA curriculum..
Essential Duties:
- Attend all scheduled PLC sessions (4 sessions 1 hour each).
- Actively engage in collaborative discussions lesson planning and student work analysis.
- Implement scaffolding strategies in their classrooms between sessions and bring back evidence of student learning.
- Reflect on practice and contribute to the collective learning of the group.
Working Time/Modality: Up to 5 Hours ($200) to be completed by January 15 2025. Dates for the 4 meetings are TBD. Additionally 1 hour of asynchronous time will be allotted to prepare before each PLC.
Compensation: up to 5 hours or a total of $200 per person (based on the number of teachers). Stipend paid as one sum at the end of the completed professional development in December 2025.
Number of Positions: 24
Members will report to Louise DeSisto K-8 Director of ELA/Literacy regarding this offering.
