About the role
Join Wyndham Council one of the fastest growing and diverse municipalities in Australia to lead the provision of waste collection services that are customer-focused sustainable innovative responsive and aligned to Councils strategic planning objectives as well as our statutory and regulatory obligations.
This role has 3 direct reports and 13 indirect reports who will work alongside you to lead contracted services community education and behaviour change in waste management practices along with managing a significant operational budget.
You will utilise your previous experience in waste management and financial strategy to critically assess the value and success of waste management services in meeting key strategic objectives whilst keeping our customers at the forefront of all decision making.
What your day will look like
Overseeing the delivery and performance of Councils contracted waste collection services including kerbside recyclables FOGO hard waste and voucher programs
Ensuring all waste services comply with state government policies regulatory requirements and align with Councils strategic objectives
Leading the development procurement and administration of high value long term waste service contracts
Analysing service performance data developing business cases and implementing strategies and programs to optimise operations meet targets and improve service delivery
Managing budgets fees and charges for waste services
Leading and developing a high performing customer-focused team that delivers on organisational objectives service innovations and business improvement outcomes
What you will bring
Degree or diploma course in engineering sustainability environmental management or waste management and experience in the field of specialist expertise plus qualifications in management OR lesser formal qualifications together with extensive and diverse experience
Demonstrated experience in the development and management of high value complex long-term service contracts specifically related to the waste sector
Demonstrated ability to plan implement and coordinate the delivery of waste collections services and a working knowledge of other waste management and disposal practices
Extensive knowledge of current legislation government policy and regulatory requirements relating to waste management and a thorough understanding of the environmental and safety issues that may impact waste management in the municipality
Demonstrated ability to develop and manage high value budgets
Demonstrated ability to develop Strategy and Policy
Demonstrable skills in service development and implementation including identifying new projects and services repositioning existing services to meet community need
Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to deal with a diverse range of stakeholders
Extensive experience leading high performing teams
Working with Childrens check
