Librarian (Digital Collections)

At Archives New Zealand and the National Library the Research Services team supports people to find use and reuse our collections to create new this role you will provide face to face and distance based research advice and coordinate the provision of digitisation requests.

Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team

We support researchers to find information in a variety of ways. Both onsite and from a distance we aim to grow peoples research skills as well as provide our own expertise to connect people to the information that is important to them. Manaakitanga is an important part of our work making people feel welcome and at home in our spaces and offering genuine skilled assistance to help people reach their personal and professional research goals.

Mōu - About You

Were on the lookout for people who are curious about the taonga the Archives and National Library holds enjoy creating connections between people and collections and want to grow their knowledge of the documentary heritage collections in Aotearoa.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Enthusiastically engage with our customers to understand the purpose of their visit and help them access the resources they need.
  • Respond clearly and comprehensively to research enquiries in person via email & telephone
  • Work with kaimahi across Archives and Library to deliver digitisation requests
  • Help to increase the effectiveness of our imaging processes

Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

An important part of this role is helping to bridge the gap between the collections and the people who cant make it to the Archives and Library in person. Our imaging service provides access images to support research and high quality reproductions so that our collections can be enjoyed in books exhibitions and in a variety of around the world.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Tertiary Degree preferably in New Zealand or Pacific studies
  • A library qualification or current study towards a library qualification or equivalent in archival practice museum studies or related field
  • Experience working in archives library or a comparable field

Applicants without a library or related degree should demonstrate a strong combination of experience training and motivation that will enable them to meet the requirements of the role.

Wā Mahi Ngāwari - Flexible Working

This role involves working onsite directly with researchers and collections on a daily basis so the opportunities for remote working are limited however we are open to considering other flexible working opportunities.

The Reading Rooms are open on Saturday mornings so you will be asked to work onsite approximately one Saturday each month.
